complications to the body~ digestive, respiratory, circulatory and immune systems; and
WHEREAS, scleroderma is estimated to affect nearly 500,000 Americans, with approximately 80% of its victims
women who are usually in the prime of their lives; and
WHEREAS, the Scleroderma Research Foundation fund and direct national research centers focused exclusively on
finding a cure, the closest of which is at the University of California at San Francisco; and
WHEREAS, locally, the Pleasanton Lions Club and the Bay Area Scleroderma Support Group continues to raise
'money to help fund Seleroderma research· efforts.'
NO W, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that I, Guy S. Houston, Mayor of the City of Dublin, California, on
behalf of the entire City Council, do hereby proclaim June 2001 as "Scleroderma Awareness Month" in the City of
Dublin and encourage all residents to become educated about scleroderma and to support the efforts of the
foundations and those sponsors who will contribute funds to support research to find a cure.
