Report prepared by: Herma Lichtenstein, Parks & Facilities Development Manager ATTACHMENTS: RECOMMENDATION: Two alternative designs will be presented at the meeting. 1) presentation Staff and Consultants Receive fi:om 2) Identify preferred alternative FINANCIAL STATEMENT: None DESCRIPTION: On October 2, 2001 the City Council approved a contract with BSA Architects to design two new Fire Stations for the City. These stations were to be developed using the prototype study approved by the City, Alameda County and the City of San Leandro in March of 2000. The two proposed fire stations are located on Madigan Rd. (Station 17) near Emerald Glen Park and on Fallon Rd (Station 18) within the area of the propoied 68 acre sports park. The Architect has worked with Staff and the Alameda County Fire Department to design the plans and elevations for both Fire Stations. In addition, the proposed plans have been reviewed by representative of Alameda County Waste Management Authority for compliance with Green Building Guidelines. PLAN ALTERNATIVE S: ~ The Consultant has prepared building plans for the two stations. Station 17 will be the larger of the two buildings at 11,000 square feet with a three engine company. Station 18 will have a two engine company and be approximately 8000 square feet. Based on input fi:om Staff and Alameda County the Consultant has refined two elevation alternatives for the floor plans. Each of the alternatives will be presented with a variety of color possibilities. The design intent is to pick one style of fagade for both buildings to minimize future maintenance requirements and to help create a "Civic" architecture for the City. The Consultant will review the two alternatives and color selections with Council. The goal for the presentation is to choose a preferred alternative. RECOMMENDATION: It is the recommendation of Staff that the City Council take the following action; 1 Receive presentation from Staff and the Consultant 2 Provide direction on preferred alternative to be developed into schematic design COPIES TO: BSA Architects ITEM NO._
