Robert Peterson, Principal Planner for the City of Tuscon arranged for two days of tours focusing on art in Tuscon. Tours were led by staff members of the Tuscon/Pima Arts Council and Tuscon Arts District in addition to Mr. Peterson. LAVTA has scheduled replacement of three shelters along Dublin Boulevard, west of the 1-680. The replacement shelters are of a traditional bus shelter design in keeping with other shelters within the LAVTA system. It has come to the attention of LAVTA staff that the City of Dublin is preparing to create Downtown Improvements Plans, which may provide for a downtown design theme. Therefore, in order to accommodate future design needs, LAVTA is willing to place replacement of shelters within the downtown on hold. Should the City Council decide to construct shelters more in keeping with the Downtown Plan Design, LAVTA will ~ontribute $6000 per shelter toward construction costs. (The cost of a traditional shelter is $6000.) Mary DuFrene, Manager of Marketing and Public Relations has prepared a visual presentation of the process including examples of traditional as well as non-traditional shelters. RECOMMENDATION It is the recommendation of Staff that the City Council receive the presentation by Mary DuFrene, and determine whether the replacement of bus shelters should go forward or be deferred and considered as part of the Downtown Improvement Plans.
