RECOMMENDATION: ~ Authorize Staff to advertise Contract 00-13 for bids
FINANCIAL STATEMENT: Funds budgeted for construction: $87,740
DESCRIPTION: In 1985-86, the City Council adopted a design for City street name
signs. This sign is characterized by a shamrock logo and white lettering on a green background. The sign
has been used in all new subdivisions since its adoption, as well as in selected replacements in existing
areas of the City. There are still a number of the older black-on-white street name signs remaining
throughout the City; this project will replace all of those with the adopted green and white signs. The new
signs are re~ectorized and will be easier to read at night. In addition, the new signs on arterial and
residential collector streets will have block numbers on them, which will aid the public and emergency
services in locating a particular address on a street. Staff has also noted that a few of the existing green
street name signs do not have block numbers on them, and those signs will be replaced or block numbers
added as part of this project.
Staff has taken an inventory of street name signs and compiled a list of approximately 500 signs which
will be replaced in this project. For the most part, the existing sign posts will be used; however, a few
new posts will be added if needed. Staff recommends that the City Council authorize solicitation of bids.
