The request that was approved by the Council provided for 20 half day and four full day workshops between September of 1990 and June of 1991. During 1990/91 the Valley Volunteer Center held 15 half day and four full day seminars in Dublin. These seminars were attended by 258 nonprofit staff members , volunteers and board members, and included such topics as nonprofit budgeting, grantwriting, volunteer recruitment and nonprofit boardsmanship. There was an increase in the number of Tri-Valley agencies who participated in the workshops which the Valley Volunteer Center attributes to the convenience of the Civic Center location. The Valley Volunteer Center is once again requesting support from the City of Dublin for utilization of the Regional Meeting Room for their 1991/92 workshops at no cost. As described in the attached correspondence from Program Director Christine Lafferty, they are requesting use for a maximum of 24 separate workshops and have indicated that the scheduling of these workshops can be fairly flexible so as to not interfere with City use. As was done during 1990/91, the workshops would be scheduled on a quarterly basis for Fall, Winter and Spring with actual workshop dates being selected approximately six weeks to two months prior to the start of the quarter. If the City were to charge the Valley Volunteer Center for use of the Regional Meeting Room as requested, the revenue generated would total approximately $3 , 780 . However, by waiving these use fees, the City would become a major donor for the Valley Volunteer Center and be listed as such on the major donor list. It is the recommendation of Staff that the City Council consider the request from the Valley Volunteer Center for use of the Regional Meeting Room at no cost for 24 Nonprofit Management Services workshops between September of 1991 through May of 1992. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ITEM NO. • , COPIES TO: Valley Volunteer Center Wvalley Volunteer Center Board of Directors May 30, 1991 RECEIVE ,I Timothy Farley, D.D.S. Jane Staehle Mike Thompson The success of this year's Nonprofit Management Services workshop Donna J.Campbell program is due in large part to your support. The Regional Meeting Executive Director Room provided a professional and comfortable atmosphere, as well as, Advisory Council easy access from the major freeways. We saw an increase in the number of Tri—Valley agencies who participated in our workshops and received Lilly Ault many favorable comments on the facility. Elva Cooper Kay Daniels I might also add that the convenience of restaurants within a short Michal Dittrich distance of the Civic Center was a wonderful benefit. Since our Art Dunkley workshops typically ran from 9:00 AM to 12:00 Noon, participants Bruce Gach,M.D. frequently asked where they could go for lunch. It was very easy to Judge William Gale recommend several restaurants that still allowed good access to the Mike Harris freeway. Tim Hunt Bill Laube This year we brought some of the best trainers from Northern Barbara Mertes California to this area. All of them were very pleased with the Rev.William Nebo facility. The City of Dublin helped us to make these workshops a John Noonan rewarding experience for all — the participants, the trainers, our Betty Nostrand staff, and the business sector. Gerald Richards Your staff provided wonderful assistance. Char Young was most cooperative in answering questions and helping put our schedule together. She was very professional and made sure that everything ran smoothly on the day of the workshop. The set—up crew always had the room in perfect order, exactly as requested. The few times when a trainer had a last minute change, your staff was always available to help make the details fit the trainer's needs. 333 Division Street ' Pleasanton, California 94566 • (415)462-3570 I would like to request the City of Dublin's support for our 1991-1992 workshop series. The availability of the city's training site is very important in our attempt to make these workshops affordable for all local agencies. Your contribution allows us to maintain our current fee structure of $35 for a half day seminar, $55 for a full day. This fee structure is comparable to other nonprofit training programs in California. As in the past, we would like to use the room for a maximum of 24 separate workshops. The scheduling of these workshops can be fairly flexible so as to not interfere with City use. Typically the workshops are scheduled on a quarterly basis for Fall, Winter and Spring. Actual workshop dates are selected approximately six weeks to two months prior to the start of the quarter. Diane, thank you again for all your assistance with this year's workshop series. Please know that the City of Dublin's contribution was greatly appreciated and we look forward to having the City's support for our 1991- 1992 program.
