DESCRIPTION: The California Government Code provides that a City Council may enact an Ordinance which provides for a salary increase in an amount equal to 5% for each calendar year. No Councilmember shall be eligible to receive the increase, however, until one or more Councilmembers begin a new term of office. This will occur following the November, 1992 election. Councilmembers currently earn $382 .88 per month. The City Council adopted Ordinance No. 6-91 in May of 1991 which provides for a 5% increase ($19. 14 per month) for calendar year 1991. If this Ordinance is adopted, Councilmember salaries would be increased an additional 5% ($20. 10 per month) for calendar year 1992, thus bringing Council- members' salaries to $422 . 12 per month following the November election. In addition, the Council may determine whether the Mayor should be compensated in addition to what he/she receives as a Councilmember. Staff recommends that the City Council conduct a public hearing and consider the option to increase Councilmember salaries by 5% for calendar year 1992 and also determine whether the Mayor should receive additional compensation. If the Council wishes to proceed with the 5% Councilmember salary increase, the Council should waive the reading and INTRODUCE the Ordinance. If the Council wishes to compensate the Mayor in addition to his/her compensation as a Councilmember, Staff should be directed to prepare the appropriate Ordinance which would be brought back to a future Council meeting. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- COPIES TO: ITEM NO. ♦ CITY CLERK FILE I A 0 r J r" ORDINANCE NO. - 92 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF DUBLIN AMENDING DUBLIN MUNICIPAL CODE SECTION 2 .08.020 AND PROVIDING FOR AN INCREASE IN THE SALARY FOR MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DUBLIN DOES ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. PURPOSE Ordinance No. 6-82 established salaries for members of the City Council, as amended by Ordinances No. 22-85, 8-87, 4-88, 3-89, 1-90 and 6-91. The purpose of this Ordinance is to modify salaries for members of the City Council in accordance with Dublin Municipal Code Section 2 . 08 . 020, Subsection A. Section 2 : AMENDMENT Section 2 . 08. 020, Subsection A, is hereby amended by adding the following language: "The said $300 shall be increased in an amount equal to 5% of the 1991 salary for calendar year 1992. " Section 3 : EFFECTIVE DATE No Councilmember shall be eligible to receive the increase provided herein until one or more Councilmembers begin a new term of office. Section 4: EFFECTIVE DATE AND POSTING OF ORDINANCE This Ordinance shall take effect and be in force thirty (30) days from and after the date of its passage. The City Clerk of the City of Dublin shall cause this Ordinance to be posted in at least three (3) public places in the City of Dublin in accordance with Section 36933 of the Government Code of the State of California.
