FINANCIAL STATEMENT Undetermined Staff costs associated with
coordination of the Task Force and
preparation for Task Force meetings
DESCRIPTION- At the January 9, 1995 meeting of the Dublin
City Council, Councilmember Barnes requested that the matter of a Teen
Task Force be placed on a future agenda for consideration.
As proposed by Councilmember Barnes, the Teen Task Force would be
comprised of the following representatives:
. 2 students each from Dublin High School, Valley High School,
Valley Christian School and Wells Middle School
. 1 Community Member
. 1 Chamber Member
. 1 School District Staff
. 1 Parks & Community Services Department Staff
. 1 Parks & Community Services Commissioner
. 1 City Councilmember
The charge of the Task Force would be as follows:
. inventory what is available to teens in this community and
rate these items
. inventory what is available in the neighboring communities and
rate these items
. identify what is needed in the City of Dublin
. setting aside all thoughts of cost, location, etc. identify
what the Task Force would like to see in our City.
As a point of information for the City Council, the City's Parks and
Communi ty Services Department does provide programming for middle
IScliool. age youth of the community. Staff are on the campus of Wells
Bi'liiUtile School two days per week during the lunch hour conducting

~-:iim tteEUI' c~ from 2: 45 - 5: 00 p.m. Monday through Friday. In

Attendance at the aforementioned activities varies according to the
event. For example, the lunch hour activities average 60 per event
for the early lunch (predominantly sixth grade students) and 38 per
event. for the la.be 1unch (predominantly seventh and eighth grade
st:mLdemtsJ ,. '!be average daily attendance at the drop-in center for the
:faJ1! quarter was 11 per day and the attendance at special events
ranged from 10 to 30 youth.
Based on the varied success of the teen activities currently sponsored
by the Ci ty , Staff supports the formation of a Teen Task Force in
order to gain addi tional insight on the needs of the teens. Staff
anticipates that the Teen Task Force could complete the charge
outlined on page one of the Agenda Statement within three months, or
by the end of April, 1995.
If the City Council supports the formation of a Teen Task Force, it is
recommended that the Council take the following action:
1. Appoint a member of the City Council to serve on the Task

2. Direct Staff to advertise for openings on the Task Force.
