' eceive Report FINANCIAL STATEMENT: Funds were not included in the Fiscal Year 1996-97 Budget for the Mape Memorial Park Dedication DESCRIPTION: At the December 17, 1996 meeting of the Dublin City Council, the Council requested an update on the schedule for the Mape Memorial Park renovation project and also discussed potential dates and ideas for the rededication ceremony of the park. The Mape Memorial Park renovation project is a sixty 60 working day project with a ninety (90) calendar day maintenance period. The start date for this project was Monday, December 9, 1996 and the project construction finish date is April 7, 1997 with the maintenance period ending on July 7, 1997. If the contractor halts operations due to rain or unworkable conditions caused by natural events beyond their control, they will be credited for those days. The project working day limit will then be extended for same number of days that it was delayed by the natural event (rain> etc.). The current finish date includes twenty (20) rain days experienced during the first five weeks of the contract but it does not include any future rain days the project may experience. To date, the contractor has completed one-half of the scheduled demolition of the site which includes removal of play equipment and park furniture and eradication of grass and plant materials. Rededication Ceremony Given the uncertainly of the project schedule due to potential rain days or unworkable conditions, Staff is hesitant to set a date for the rededication ceremony at this time. If no additional rain days were encountered, it would be possible to plan the rededication ceremony for late July or August. If, however, we continue to experience wet and rainy conditions which delay the project schedule, September may be a more realistic date for the rededication ceremony. It has been suggested that the rededication ceremony be featured on the front cover of the Schedule of Recreation Classes and Programs. Depending on the date for the ceremony, either the summer or fail brochure could be used; the key deadlines for each issue are shown on the following page. If, by March, the project is still on schedule, Staff would recommend that the rededlcation ceremony .be held during the summer; this would provide adequate lead time to meet the deadlines for the summer brochure. If, however, the project schedule slips substantially due to circumstances beyond our control, Staff would recommend that the rededication ceremony be put off until the fall. In the meantime, Staff will be discussing potential plans for the reded/cation ceremony with the Parks and Community Services Commission and will submit the plans to the City Council at a later date for final approval.
