AGENDA STATEMENT
CITY COUNCIL MEETING DATE: February 2, 1999
SUBJECT:
Authorization to Solicit Bids - Heritage Center Improvements,
Phase II (Landscape Work and Wedding Courtyard) 98-11B
Report Prepared by: Lee S. Thompson, Public Works Director
ATTACHMENTS:
RECOMMENDATION:
Plans and specifications will be available at the meeting
Authorize Staffto solicit bids
FINANCIAL STATEMENT:
The budget for both phases of the project is $69,070. The revised
architect's estimate for Phase I Improvements (site work) is $57,400
and for Phase II improvements (landscaping and irrigation) is
$70,760, for a total of $128,160. Staff is anticipating that a budget
appropriation will be needed at Phase II project award.
DESCRIPTION: Staffwas originally authorized to advertise for bids for the entire
scope of work for Heritage Center Improvements in August of 1998. Only one bid ($239,230) was
received for the original project, which was significantly higher than funds budgeted. The bid was
rejected and Staffrecommended that the project be re-advertised as two separate projects.
Phase I, which included the sitework such as grading and paving, was subsequently authorized by Council
to go out to bid on January 5, 1999. It was anticipated at that time that a budget appropriation would be
required for the Phase II work. However, the exact amount of the budget appropriation will not be 'known
until bids are received and the contract comes before Council for the award of bid.
Staffrecommends that the City Council authorize solicitation of bids for Phase II of the Heritage Center
Improvements (Landscape Work and Wedding Courtyard).
