Thompson, Public Works Director ATTACHMENTS: 1) Resolution 2) Location Map RECOMMENDATION: ~Adopt resolution directing Staff to apply for funding FINANCIAL STATEMENT:' The total estimated cost for the project is $438,000. If the City of Dublin's grant application is approved, the City will receive $350,400 of Transportation Fund for Clean Air from the Bay Area Air Quality Management District. Matching funds in the amount of $87,600, equal .. to 20% of the project cost, will be required if funding is approved. The City may use future Transportation Development Act funds and/or General Funds as local match. DESCRIPTION: The City, in collaboration with East Bay Regional Park District, City of Pleasanton and Zone 7, is proposing to construct the section of the Alamo Canal Trail from Iron Horse Trail to Interstate 580. This project will connect the Alamo Canal bicycle path in Pleasanton with the Iron Horse Trail that is planned for construction in Dublin, the last link needed for full connections between the bicycle paths in Pleasanton and those in Dublin. The trail will be 12~ wide, and paved with asphalt concrete on the existing aggregate base maintenance road. If the City receives this grant, funds will be available in October 1999, with the condition that the funds be expended within two years of the effective date of the funding agreement. Staff recommends that the City Council adopt the Resolution authorizing Staffto apply for Transportation Fund for Clean Air from the Bay Area Air Quality Management District. ( COPIES TO: ITEM NO. ~ RESOLUTION NO. --99 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DUBLIN AUTHORIZATION FoR GRANT APPLICATION FOR THE 1999 TRANSPORTATION FUND FOR CLEAN AIR PROGRAM FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE ALAMO CANAL BICYCLE TRAIL PROJECT WHEREAS, the City of Dublin recognizes the potential air quality benefit from the implementation of bicycle trail projects, and WHEREAS, the City of Dublin, in collaboratibn with East Bay Regional Park District, City of Pleasanton and Zone 7, is proposing to construct the section of the Alamo Canal Bicycle Trail between Iron Horse Trail and Interstate 580, and WHEREAS, the Transportation Fund for Clean Air program of the Bay Area Air Quality Management District is a potential source of funding' for this project. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of Dublin does hereby authorize the submittal of a grant application to the Bay Area Air Quality Management District through the Transportation FUnd for Clean Air program, in the amount of $350,400 for the construction of the Alamo Canal Bicycle Trail project between Iron Horse Trail and Interstate 580, and authorizes the Director of Public Works to submit and carry out the project; and NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City of Dublin by adopting this resolution does hereby state that the City of Dublin will provide $87,600 (20%) in local matching funds if funds are approved for the project.
