Thompson, Public Works Director ATTACltMENTS: Resolution Kejecting Bid ./~Adopt resolution rejecting bid. FINANCIAL STATEMENT: $8,500 is budgeted for construction. Only one bid was received in the amount of $22,249.00. DESCRIPTION: On September 21, 1999, the City Council authorized Staff to solicit bids for Contract 99-12, Fire Station Acoustical Improvement. The dining area of the fire station is also used as a training facility. The hard surface walls, floor, and ceiling cause sounds to echo, which is detrimental to the training process. The project proposes to install acoustical ceiling tile and wall panels in the diningtraining area to absorb a p~rcentage of the sound. A preliminary cost estimate of $8,500 was received from an acoustical contractor prior to developing the budget for this project. Staff advertised this project in the local newspaper and mailed notices to approximately 12 East Bay contractors listed under Acoustical Contractors in the 1999 Building and Construction Blue Book. Only one bid was received, from LJ Interiors, Inc., in the amount of $22,249. Staff contacted the contractor who had provided the original estimate and was advised that the $8,500 cost still seemed reasonable but that they generally would not bid publicly advertised work. Because the bid received is nearly three times the amount budgeted, Staff recommends that the City Council reject the bid. Staff will personally contact some of the other acoustical contractors and attempt tO resolve any concerns or questions before re-advertising the project, as it appears that it is possible to have the work done within the funds budgeted. Staff recommends that the City Council adopt the resolution rejecting the bid received. gAmiscprojXfsacoUs~c\agstreject COPIES TO: LJ Interiors, Inc.
