The low bid places this program approximately $3,200 below budget; however, it is anticipated that additional grinding locations will be identified for inclusion in this year's program. DESCRIPTION: On September 21, 1999, the City Council authorized Staff to solicit bids for both the Remove and Replace and Grinding portions of the Annual Sidewalk Repair. The Annual Sidewalk Safety Repair Program has been using two different processes to repair sidewalk'that is offset 3/4" or more and may pose a tripping hazard. The first process, Remove and Replace, is used in instances where the offset is more significant or where tree roots are causing the problem. The Remove and Replace project was awarded previously and is currently under construction. g:Xrntceproj\grinding\agstawrd, COPIES TO: Bidders ITEM NO. The second process is to grind less severe concrete offsets to match the adjoining grade. This process is essentially more of a maintenance-type procedure, as opposed to the construction element of the removal4 and replacement of sidewalk. For this reason, the sidewalk grinding contract is recommended as a two-year contract, similar to the Annual Striping contract. The City Council will need to approve the funding each fiscal year. The specifications for this contract include notification to the prospective contractor of the necessity for annual authorization of funding. Following is a summary of bids received for this project: CONTRACTOR UNIT PRICE TOTAL PRICE Concrete Grinding Company Central Coast Surface Grinding Company 18.80 $3,783.50 19.99 $3,924.38 Two bids were received for the project, with the low bid being submitted by Concrete Grinding Company, in the mount of $3,783.50. Staff has reviewed the bids, checked the low bidder's references, and recommends that the City Council award the contract for this project to Concrete Grinding Company.
