Dear Deputy Gandsey,
On behalf of Valley Community Center I would like to thank you for t~tt~o~.nderful
assistance you provided us in carrying out the Mangini-grant we r~;~l~-ou~h
Alameda County Tobacco Control. Every year more then 450,000 prematur;'~deaths occur
in the United States from tobacco related causes. This epidemic is totally preventable; and
the most ideal opportunities for prevention are during childhood, adolescence and tenage
years before tobacco becomes a long-term addiction. During the course of our ~ant work
the City of Dublin saw a dramatic drop in the number of tobacco sales to minors. The fact
that fewer and fewer merchants are willing to sell tobacco to youth within Dublin shows
how much the community cares about the youth who live in it and we hope this will keep
the youth in Dublin from being part of the 450,000 deaths every year. I hope that in the
future our two agencies can continue to work together on projects such as this one.
Again, thank you for all your time and efforts. ·
Sincerely,
Corina Orias
