DESCRIPTION :In April 1982 the City Council appointed Councilmember Burton to participate on the Citizen's Cable Television Advisory Council as the Dublin representative. Cm. Burton has requested that the City Council formally recognize the Advisory Council as an advisory body to the Dublin City Council on matters related to cable television. Cm. Burton has also requested City Council consideration of a resolution which would designate the Tri-Valley Community Television Corporation as the official non-profit corporation to receive funds and request Viacom Cablevision to deposit fifty cents per Dublin subscriber with the Tri-Valley Community Television Corporation for the purpose of supporting and promoting community service television. Viacom has allocated such funds on behalf of Livermore and Pleasanton subscribers. Charlotte Severin and Darla Stevens will make a presentation to the City Council , which will provide the City Council with additional background on the work of both the Citizen's Cable Television Advisory Council and the Tri-Valley Community Television Corporation. nn Copies To: Myrt Jones ITEM NO. 6.'d✓ Charlotte Severin ()Aria CtAVCnc RESOLUTION No. RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DUBLIN DESIGNATING THE CITIZENS CABLE TELEVISION ADVISORY COUNCIL AS THE OFFICIAL CABLE TELEVISION ADVISORY GROUP TO THE CITY OF DUBLIN WHEREAS, Viacom Cablevision is the franchiser which provides cable television services to residents of the City of Dublin; and WHEREAS, expertise in the area of cable television will be essential to the renegotiation of the City's franchise agreement; and WHEREAS, the Cities of Livermore and Pleasanton have officially appointed the Citizens Cable Television Advisory Council to serve as the advisory body on cable television to each City Council; and WHEREAS, the Citizens Cable Television Advisory Council has demon- strated its ability to research and advise effectively in two recent rate increase proceedings in the Cities of Livermore and Pleasanton; and WHEREAS, the Dublin City Council believes that the assistance of the Citizens Cable Television Advisory Council would be valuable on issues related to cable television. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City of Dublin officially recognizes and designates the Citizens Cable Television Advisory Council as the cable television advisory body to the Dublin City Council . PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED THIS day of by the following vote: AYES: NOES: ABSENT: Mayor ATTEST: City Clerk 0 RESOLUTION No. RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DUBLIN DESIGNATING THE TRI-VALLEY COMMUNITY TELEVISION CORPORATION AS THE OFFICIAL BODY TO RECEIVE CABLE TELEVISION GRANT FUNDS WHEREAS, the City of Dublin recognizes the value of community service television to the residents of Dublin; and WHEREAS, Tri-Valley Community Television has been duly incorporated as a non-profit corporation with its purpose being to receive and disperse funds and to promote community service television, and represents all the tri-valley interests including those of Dublin residents; and WHEREAS, Viacom Cablevision has allocated funds in the amount of fifty cents per subscriber per year on behalf of subscribers in the Cities of Pleasanton and Livermore to support and promote community service tele- vision; and WHEREAS, the Dublin City Council believes it appropriate that funds for community television be allocated on behalf of Dublin cable television subscribers. NOW, THEREFORE, the Dublin City Council hereby resolves as follows: Section 1 : Designates Tri-Valley Community Television as the official non-profit corporation to receive and disperse funds and to develop community service television. Section 2: Respectfully requests that fifty cents per Dublin subscriber per year be deposited by Viacom Cablevision with Tri-Valley Community Television, a non-profit corporation, to support and promote community service television.
