AGENDA STATEMENT 5% 0
Meeting Date: October 25, 1982
SUBJECT : School Crossing Guard - Village Parkway and Davona Drive
EXHIBITS ATTACHED October 8, Stanley L. 8359r dated
Mulberry Place.
RECOMMENDATION : Consider Request 124N
•
FINANCIAL STATEMENT: Cost of Traffic Study approximately $860
Cost of Crossing Guard approximately $8,100/yr.
DESCRIPTION : The City has received a request from the Murray School District for
the City to provide a crossing guard at the intersection of Village
Parkway and Davona Drive. Another request has also been received
from Ralph Hendricks, 8359 Mulberry Place for a crossing guard at
the same location. There are presently four school crossing guards
in the City. Two positions are funded by the City (Village Parkway/
Tamarack; San Ramon Road/Shannon Avenue) and two positions are funded
by the School District (Village Parkway/Brighton Drive; San Ramon Road/
Amador Valley Boulevard).
In order to determine if a crossing guard is warranted at this intersection, the County
Traffic Engineer could be requested to perform a study which would include traffic accident
analysis, traffic volume count, student pedestrian count and completion of warrant. The
County has estimated the cost of such a study to be approximately $860. The estimated
annual cost of providing a crossing guard at that location is $8,100. The estimated cost
for the remainder of fiscal year 1982-83 is approximately $6,500.
If the City Council believes that the City, rather than the School District, has a respon-
sibility to insure traffic safety of students walking to and from school , it is recommended
that the City Council direct the County to perform a traffic investigation at this location
to determine if the crossing guard is warranted at this location.

Mr. Richard Ambrose

Dear Richard:
Frank Stager, the principal at Murray School , 8435 Davona
Drive, Dublin, has identified a potential traffic hazard.
The concern is the safety of children crossing Village
Parkway at Davona, going to and from Murray School .
The district currently provides a crossing guard at
Brighton Drive and Village Parkway for Murray and Fallon
Schools and the city provides a crossing guard at
Tamarack and Village Parkway for children at Fallon
School .
We will appreciate your looking into this and, if needed,
providing a crossing guard at Davona and Village Parkway.
Sincerely, /
Stanley L. Males

One student had to run across the street to get across safely. Kids are
walking to the stop sign, crossing at the stop sign and then crossing
Davona, creating double jeopardy for them.

If students are required to cross at Brighton, it adds to their travel
time and creates more confusion for Kindergarten and First Graders.
In order_to ,prgyent a ,rri ous accident, I request that you authorize a
crossing guard for Davona and Village Parkway, to be assigned the same
hours as the one at Brighton.

To whom it may concern;
My family recently moved to Dublin and my children attend the local Dublin
schools.
It has come to my attention that we are without the benefit of crossing
guards at the corner of Davona and Village Parkway.
Our neighborhood is brand new and the majority of the families have school
age children Cr have four children).
The danger of a young child crossing this street,in question, is very real
and of great concern to both my family and neighbors.
I would Zike to formally request the City Of Dublin to give this matter
serious attention.
If budget policies require a more formal request for review, please let me
know as I would be hcpply to give this problem my full attention.
Our neighborhood is named Parkway Terrace and is about two (2) blocks
from the crossing noted.
Thank you, for your assistance in this matter.
