Maleski , Murray School District dated June 28, 1983 RECOMMENDATION Notify School District of City' s interest or lack \ of interest in purchasing Dolan site ' FINANCIAL STATEMENT: Unknown at this time DESCRIPTION At its meeting of July 11 , 1983, the City Council considered a notice of intent from the Murray School District to dispose of the Dolan School site as surplus school property. At that meeting, the Council requested the Parks & Recreation Advisory Committee to consider the desirability of acquiring this site for parks and recreation purposes , and further , that Staff report back to the Council on July 25 , 1983. In order to provide the Council with additional background information, Staff has reviewed the Dublin San Ramon Services District ' s Park and Recreation Master Plan Update which was revised in February of 1978. The plan consultant recommended that the Services District either purchase or lease the Dolan site from the Murray School District for use as a community park or open space with connecting trails to hills , athletic fields and picnic facilities . It was recommended that approximately half this site be developed with the remainder remaining as open space . In 1978 , the costs associated with this project were as follows : Acquisition $ 575 ,000 Development 720 ,000 Annual Maintenance - 42 ,000 $1 , 337 ,000 The District ' s consultant recommended the Dolan site as a higher priority than development of neighborhood parks . At its meeting of July 13 , 1983 , the Parks & Recreation Advisory Committee indicated that a need did exist for additional park space in the area west of San Ramon Road, especially considering the number of new homes being built in that area. However, the Committee indicated that the City should only consider the Dolan site if the City could purchase or lease a portion of the site . If the City Council is interested in pursuing the purchase or lease of a portion of the site , the City would need to determine what portion of the site it was interested and set up a meeting with representatives of the School District to determine if the District would be willing to consider such a proposal . --------------------------------------------------------------------------- / COPIES TO: ITEM NO.
