DESCRIPTION One of the goals of the Recreation
Department for the 1985-86 fiscal year is to sponsor six special
events for the community. At their meeting of March 13, 1985,
the Park and Recreation Commission suggested to staff that a
Fourth of July Celebration be planned as one of these special
events . Staff presented the Commission with a list of activities
at the April 9 , 1985 meeting (Exhibit A) . It was decided that
the Dublin San Ramon Services District be contacted about the
possibility of using the Valley Community Swim Center on the
afternoon of July 4th for this event. It was further discussed
that the day could be planned around water oriented activities
utilizing the pool and surrounding deck and grass areas .
Families would be encouraged to bring a picnic dinner and the day
could culminate with an ice cream social or watermelon feed.
Sufficient funds have been included in the 1985-86 FY Budget to
cover the cost of the event.

DESCRIPTION One of the goals for 1985-86 is to
sponsor six special events throughout the year. One
suggested event is a 4th of July Celebration. There are
any number of activities that could be done as part of the
celebration. Below you will find examples of activities
done by other departments :
1 . Pool party and picnic
2 . Old-fashioned pot-luck/BBQ
3 . Band concert in the park
4 . Parade
5 . Fireworks display
6 . Game booths
7 . Relay races/contests
It is the opinion of Staff that any event planned be
designed to involve family participation. It is
further recommended that the event be done on a smaller
scale than the St . Patrick ' s Day Celebration and that
activities are planned to avoid duplication.
The Staff welcomes any input that the Commission may
have on the proposed 4th of July Celebration.

Dear Paul:
The City of Dublin would like to request the/ use of the Valley
Community Swim Center on the afternoon of July 4 , 1985 for a
city-wide Fourth of July celebration. Although we are currently
in the initial planning stages, the tentative schedule is as
follows :
12 noon-1 : 30pm Set-up
1: 30pm-2 : 00pm Pool Open/Sign-up for
Activities
2 : 00pm-4 : 00pm Games and Relays in the Pool
and on the Deck/Grass
4 : 00pm-5 : 00pm Picnic Dinner/Free Swim/
perhaps demonstrations from
local Swim and Dive Clubs
5 : 00pm-6 : 00pm Ice Cream Social/Entertainment
6 : 00pm-7 : 00pm Clean-up
It would be greatly appreciated if the District would consider
waiving the rental fees and absorbing the cost of the lifeguards,
as this event will be free of charge to the community and will
benefit both City and District residents . If the staff at the
pool have already planned activities for this date, we are more
than willing to work with them to supplement what is planned.
I will look forward to hearing) from you at your earliest
convenience . Please don 't hesitate to call me at 829-4932 if you
have any further questions or require additional information.
Sincerely,
Dia e Lowart
