SUBJECT: Governor ' s Proclamation of Earthquake Preparedness Week
April 14 - 19 , 1986
Preparedness is essential for safety and survival in the event of a
major earthquake , which many scientists predict could strike within
the next 30 years . Californians must learn what can be done before ,
during and after such a disaster to protect their lives and property .
For this reason , we - request that your City join with Alameda County
in support of Governor Deukmejian ' s Proclamation of Earthquake
Preparedness Week April 14 - 19, 1986 .
We will forward to you a written copy of. the Governor ' s proclamation
and Earthquake Preparedness campaign packet upon our receipt from
the State Office of Emergency Services which is expected during the
first week of April .
For your consideration , a suggested resolution form is enclosed .
Further enclosed is a report entitled , "Summary of the Earthquake
Planning Scenario for .a Magnitude 7 . 5 Earthquake on the Hayward
Fault in the San Francisco Bay Area , " which will provide you and
your City Council with additional information .
The "How to Plan a Public Awareness Campaign" program guide and the
"Earthquake Preparedness Campaign Checklist" will offer guidance for
participation in Earthquake Week .
