If the City Council concurs with participating, the amount of the contribution should be determined and authorization given to make a budget transfer from the contingent reserve to the City Council Community Promotion Account in the amount selected. FINANCIAL STATEMENT: $1 , 000 or $2 , 000 . A budget transfer from the contingent reserve would be required. DESCRIPTION The Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum complex is about to celebrate its 20th anniversary. In honor - of this milestone, the representatives of the Coliseum are looking for participation by all of the East Bay cities . The Oakland-Alameda County coliseum Foundation is sponsoring a civic dinner which will take place in the Arena on Thursday, September 18, 1986 . This is the date of the 20th anniversary. On the same date in the stadium will be an anniversary party for the general public including entertainment and fireworks . The Foundation has established a program in which the City can participate. If the City contributes $1, 000, they will receive $1 , 000 worth of tickets to various sports and other events during 1986 and five tickets to the special civic dinner . If a $2 , 000 contribution is made, the City will receive $2 , 000 worth of tickets to special events and ten tickets to the civic dinner . The intent for the special event tickets is to have the City distribute them through the Recreation Department to the youth of the community. The Coliseum will also make special arrangements to designate a particular day as Dublin Day. As a participant and sponsor, it may be possible to obtain tickets at a discounted rate for local sales on that day. Mayor Snyder has been involved with the preparations for this program and recently made a presentation to the Alameda County Mayors ' Conference . Staff would recommend that you consider the request . The Oakland Alameda County Coli- seum will observe its twentieth year of operation this summer with activi- ties focusing on the many memorable events and performances which have taken place at the facility . The anniversary ' s theme is "Great Coliseum Memories . " "The Coliseum has seen playoff and championship games in at least six snorts , hundreds of world-famous performers and a variety of great family entertainment , " said George J. Vukasin, President of the Coliseum' s Board of Directors . "These events have created wonderful memories and strong emotions for many of the 60 million people who have visited the Coliseum since it opened in 1966. Twenty years seems like a good time to recall some of them, " con- cluded Mr . Vukasin. An important element of the observance is a balloting , sponsored by the Miller Brewing Company , which will enable the public to select the most memorable events and performances. The "Lite Beer Great Coliseum Memories Sweepstakes" will place ballots in the approximately 13 ,000 retail outlets .where Miller products are sold throughout Northern California. For that ballot , members of the Bay Area media are being asked to nominate memorable moments and individual performances in both sports and entertainment cate- gories. Closing out "Great Coliseum Memories" activities will be a civic dinner for approximately 1300 in the Arena on Thursday , September 18 , the anniversary date. Many prominent personalities -and performers of the 20 years will be in attendance . Also on the evening of September 18 , but in the Stadium, will be a 20th anniversary party for the general public featuring top musical enter- tainment , an introduction of the Coliseum ' s history-making performers and closing with a fireworks display . San Francisco ' s NBC television affiliate, KRON Channel 4 , is producing a documentary on the Coliseum' s 20 year history for prime-time showing in September and may also cover , live, portions of the final dinner and out- door show. Another planned element is a Coliseum Foundation sponsored art compe- tition for kindergarten through eighth grade students . Entries will be displayed at the Coliseum next September . Other events are being planned and will be made public as they are finalized .
