Dublin City Council 100 Civic Plaza Dublin,Ca. 94568 Reference Public Works Hearing May 18,2010 Speed Limit Increase Dear Mayor,City Council Members, , f~.l~r; _ ~ ~!~I~f ~~~~~~ ~~`~~~~~ My wife a.nd I have lived on Amador valley Boulevazd since 1998,and have watched traffic speed carefully.and agree, the speed svrvey dictates that most cars do not obey the 25 mph posted speed. However, perhaps you shoutd look at the reasons cars drive faster than the posted speed Iimit. First, the 25 mph sign near ViIlage Parkway is not naticeable to traffic flow.It is sr,mall.and set back from the street. Second, The larger sign (going East) is past Ann Arbor Way,and not visable from York Drive. Third, Motorcycle Offxcers have parked in front of my home with Radar,to catch speeders, with some success, but the problem is,they came at the wrong time.Between Spm,and 7pm,are the worst offenders, and the police were there at l0am.,also,they were parked before drivers could see the larger 25mph sign past Ann Arbor. The speed survey was also conducted in front of my house, before the Iarger sign was visable. One of my arguments is that if the speed limit had been enforced, and more prominent signs were in place, the tlze speed survey would have noticed no increase of average speed. My other argurnent is that it is almost impossible to back out of my driveway during certain hours, mostly because most cars do not fully stop at the stop sign at York Drive, and then speed up to the rear of the previous car,(again,no enforcement at peak hours) so there is no break in trai~c at all. What will happen when the speed is increased to 3(?mph?Very few obey the 25 mpg,so what makes you think they will obey the 30mph? Just gives most drivers encouragement to dr~ve faster. Respectfully: A1 Edge 7Q88 Amador Vailey Blvd. Dublin From: TOMMYSMITH Sent: Monday, May 17, 2010 12:11 PM To: Jaimee Bourgeois Subject: Public Hearing Notice Re: Posted speed limit on Amador Valley Boulevard Regarding the recent proposal to change the posted speed limit on Amador Valley Boulevard, I do not agree due to the following reasons: 1. Amador Valley Boulevard run between finro schools and I believe that changing the speed limit on this street will endanger the students and pedestrians currently utilizing the throughfare as access to these schools. 2. Although there are not as many children living and playing on the street as there use to be, it is still a residential area and people living on the street must back out of their drives to the street. 3. Further, I live within 60 feet of the stop sign at Penn Drive and I have observed the cars failing to stop or observing the sign at the last minute. I believe that currently that drivers think that they can drive at least five miles over the limit and feel that they are safe from getting a ticket. If you raise the limit, then it is 35 miles per hour before they feel that it is over the limit. My address is as follows: 6885 Amador Valley Boulevard and I have seen the changes over the years since 1974. Thanks, Tommy Smith
