have been made to the Senior Center.
DUBLIN SENIOR FOUNDATION PING PONG TABLE
The Dublin Senior Foundation provided a donation of $580 to purchase the ping pong table that is now
available at the Senior Center. The table has been extremely popular for drop-in play. It is a great way
for older adults to keep active, enhance eye-hand coordination and have fun. The Foundation coordinates
a variety of fundraising programs including the Senior Center Donor Walls, Monthly Casino Bus Trips,
Weekly Bingo and a Fireworks Booth.
SPECIAL EVENT SPONSORS
In May the Senior Center held the annual Mother's Day Luncheon. This year the Dublin Rotary Club
provided a donation of $192 to help augment the event menu and provide each mother at the event with a
fresh cut rose.
In July the Senior Center offered an event to celebrate the 2009 Summer National Senior Games, which is
presented by Humana and was held in California this year. Humana sponsored an event at the Senior
Center to promote the Senior Games. Activities at the event included a variety of indoor games and
sports competitions,. line dancing and a car show and barbecue. There were over 250 people in attendance
at the event. Humana provided the entertainment for the dance, as well as donated $350 to help offset
supply costs.

FREE COFFEE PROGRAM
The Dublin Senior Center is the only senior center in the Tri-Valley that provides free coffee to patrons.
This program began in 2009 with Staff finding companies that would be interested in sponsoring the
coffee costs for the Senior Center. In exchange for the donations, the sponsors are able to place fliers
about their business at the coffee bar in the lounge area. The annual cost to provide coffee and
condiments is approximately $1,200. The program has been well received by patrons and sponsors. The
City has received $2,550 which is enough to offer free coffee for two years. To date the City has received
donations from the following companies for the coffee program:
Diablo Lodge $250
HomeAide Home Care, Inc. $1,500
Senior Helpers $250
Tender Heart Horne Car, Inc. $550
INDIVIDUAL DONATIONS
Sometimes the Senior Center receives donations from individuals, who may prefer to make a donation
directly to the City rather than to the Senior Foundation. Recently the Senior Center received donations
from two individuals. Ms. Patricia Hughes donated $1,000 and Ms. Helen Jue donated $100. The funds
were used to help purchase equipment for the new Greeter, Senior Spotlight and Integrity in Action
programs at the Senior Center and to augment special event entertainment.
In recognition of their contributions the donors will be presented with certificates of appreciation for
supporting Dublin. Per Government Code Section 37354, it is recommended that all gifts and
contributions be formally accepted by the City Council.
RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends that the City Council recognize the donors and
formally accept the contributions.
