requesting a tree lighting ceremony and candlelight walk be held this year in memory of her husband,
Officer John Monego, .who was killed while on-duty on December 12, 1998.
The proposal calls for a tree lighting ceremony and candlelight walk to be held on Saturday, December 11,
1999, commencing at 6:00 P.M., in the lobby of Dublin Police Services. All costs associated with a cut 6'
to 7' holiday tree and decorations would be derived from donations. It is also proposed that the Dublin
High School Band play holiday music during the tree lighting ceremony. It has been confirmed a small
group of band members are available. Additional music would be provided by the Alameda County
Sheriff's Office Pipe Band.
A_tier the tree lighting ceremony, it is proposed that a candlelight walk from the Civic Center to the
Outback Restaurant on Regional St. take place with participants carrying either disposable flashlights or
lightslicks (donated). After a return walk to the Civic Center a brief invocation by a member of the clergy
would be held in the Council chambers, ending about 9:00 P.M. Light refreshments (donated) would then
be served in the Re~onal Room. The only expense for the City of Dublin is the cest of an MCE employee
opening and closing the Civic Center; costs are estimated to be $80.00 ($20.00 per hour x 4 hours). It is
anticipated that minimal staff time would be involved in the even~to the work of volunteers for the
setup and cleanup.
This report is presented for the City Council's information and review. Staff recommends that Council
provide direction to Staff regarding additional action, if deemed appropriate.
