CITY COUNCIL MEETING DATE: October 21,1997
SUBJECT:
Award of Purchase Order - Street Light Pole Painting
Report Prepared by: Lee S. Thompson, Public Works Director
EXHIBITS A TTACRED': None
RECOMMENDA nON: . ~ard Purchase Order to St. Francis Electric .
FINANCIAL STATEMENT: Only one proposal was received for the work. The total amount of
the proposal for street light pole painting was $20,790. Staff additionally requested a price for painting
. .
the traffic signal poles at Dublin Boulevard and Sierra Court/Civic Plaza. The price quoted for this work
was $2,000.
Sufficient funds are available in the Signal and Lighting Operating Budget to perfonn this work.
DESCRIPTION: This will be the second "round" ofa maintenance contract for pole
painting since the City acquired the street lights from PG&E. Last fiscal year's project painted poles on all
of the major arterial streets. This project is proposed to paint poles on Regional Street and Amador Plaza
Road and in the residential neighborhoods between San Ramon Road and 1-680. There are approximately
165 poles in these areas. The poles in the area east ofI-680 would be painted in the 1998-99 fiscal year.
Staff requested proposals from the three contractors who bid last year's project but received only one
quotation this year. St. Francis Electric perfonned the pole painting for last year's project, and the work
was of excellent quality. The total amount of the quotation slightly exceeds the dollar amount budgeted
specifically for pole painting; however, there are sufficient funds within the street lighting operating budget
for the total amount.
Staff additionally requested a quotation for painting the traffic signal poles at the Dublin Boulevard/Sierra
Court/Civic Plaza intersection. These are the only painted signal poles in the City. There are sufficient
funds available in the traffic signal maintenance portion of the operating budget to perfonn this work, and
Stafffeels that the entrance to the Civic Center would be enhanced if the poles were repainted.
Staff recommends that the City Council approve award of a purchase order to St. Francis Electric for pole
painting.
