DESCRIPTION:
HISTORY - Approximately 10 years ago, the Dublin Chamber of Connnercesign was moved to its
current location in front of the Casa Orozco Restaurant as part ,of the road widenmgproject for San
Ramon Road. The sign is located within a City landscape easement on private property. The sign
,.catio~ (northeast co.mer.of~e San Ramon Rd.l~or Valley Blvd. inter~ection)was o~ce the entrance
o Dublm's commercial diStrict, but now the location IS more towards. the nuddle oltheelt)'.
Concerned that the sign was not in the most strategic location to, help identify the servi~e clubs that are
advertised on the sign, the City Council asked Staff to write a letter to the Chamber of Coinmerce
requesting a relocation of the sign. This was given a high priority by the City Council at its Goals &
Objectives Session.
The letter signed by Mayor Houston (Exhibit # 1) was delivered to the Chamber President, Sergio Meza at
a group meeting of City Staff and Chamber Board Membel'$ orrFeb. 29th. DiS01!ssionwas held
concerning different locations, costs and the City's desire to place the ,sign at an entrance loetUion to the
City instead of its current central location. The Chamber delivered a letter back to, Mayor HO\lston on
March 27th stating their feeling about leaving the sign in its current location, (see Exhibi~ .#2). According
to the Chamber, cost and finding an appropriate non..private location are the twomaj()rdrawbacks 19.
moving the sign. They also value the present location of-the sign that has not moved for more than ten
years.
The Chamber indicated verbally to Staff that it might beintere8tec:i.in pursuing.anadditional sign in

Dear Sergio:
During our annual Goals & Objectives meeting for the City, the issue of changing
the location of the Chamber's monument sign was discussed. The location of the
current sign is positioned in the middle of the City and seems to be showing its
age.
.
I would like to request that the Chamber consider relocating the monument sign
to one of the entrance locations to the City. Different locations might include a
site near San Ramon Road and Dublin Boulevard; the Dougherty Road/Dublin
Boulevard area; or along Alcosta Boulevard. It was brought to my attention that a
number of the plaques on the sign are in need of repair or painting. Again, the
sign could be moved as is, or design and construction of a new Chamber sign
could be implemented by either the Chamber or one of the City's service clubs.
Thanks for your consideration.

Dear Mayor Houston:
Thank you for your letter of February 27, 1996 regarding the issue of
chijnging the location of the Chdmber~s monument sign which is presently
located at the corner of San Ramon Road and Amador Val1e~ Boulevard.
At it's regular meeting of March 13, 1996, the Board of Directors of the
Dublin Chamber Of Commerce discussed the request to relocate the monument
sign to one of the entrance locations to the City. The different locations .
suggested by the City to move the sign were discussed and it was felt none
were as appropriate as where the monument sign is now located.
The sign i~ current1y located on public property whereby moving it to the
corner of San Ramon Ro~d and Dublin Boulev~rd it would have to be located on
private property. Although t~e current owner of the proper~ is willing to
have the sign erected on his propertYt there was cOnCern should the property
be sold as to what would happen to the sign. It was agreed the other two
locations suggested did not have ample space for the s1gn.
The Chamber recently had the sign painted and reinforced ~lth new supports
and cement. There is one organization plaque on the sign that is in need
of repiacement and that organization has been notified by the Chamber to
replace the emblem.
The Board of Directors of the Chamber feel the monument sign at it's present
location is somewhat of a landmark, hav'fng l5een in tbis- location for over
twenty years now. It was felt for the present time the Chamber is satisfied
with the location and do not wish to have the sign relocated.
If you would like to discuss this issue with me further, please do not hesitate
to give me a call.
Sincerely yours,
SM:nf
