Thompson, Public Works Director ATTACHMENTS: 1) 2) Color copy of proposed banners Location map RECOMMENDATION: 1) 2) Approve proposed design for downtown theme banners and Farmer's Market banners Authorize Staff to solicit bids FINANCIAL STATEMENT: The estimated cost for the proposed banners is as follows: . 44 ea. "Shop Dublin" and 44 ea. "Discover Dublin" Banners 10 ea. "Farmer's Market" vinyl banners with patch for date and time information Cost of artwork for all three designs TOTAL ESTIMATE: $7,400.00 $1,160.00 990.00 $9,550.00 The budget for this purchase is $10,600 There will be an associated increase in the annual cost for banner installation of approximately $1,600, as well as a cost of approximately $400 each time a new "date and time" patch is required for the Fanner's Market banners. DESCRIPTION: This proposed set of banners is intended to promote Dublin commerce. The design of the banners incorporates the Chamber of Commerce's "Discover Dublin" theme, and the intent is to install the banners with a "Discover Dublin" and "Shop Dublin" set of banners on each street light pole that has banner mounting brackets. The Chamber of Commerce has received copies of the artwork and is in favor of using this design. In addition to these banners, Staff recommends incorporating Fanner's Market banners with this project. It is proposed to locate the Farmer's Market banners at major intersections during the time of year that the Farmer's Market is open (see location map for possible locations). The Farmer's Market banners are proposed to be vinyl rather than fabric and to have changeable day and time information so that they can continue to be used from year to year if the market schedule changes. .--------------------------------------------------------------- COPIES TO: Chamber of Commerce /1 ,I ITEMNO.~ g:\miscproj\banners\agstshopbanners These banners were originally intended to be in place following the St. Patrick's banners, which are ~ · typically removed in late March, and prior to the "flag" banners, which are installed around Memorial Day in late May. Since the delivery time for the banners will preclude installing them prior to the flag banners, it is recommended that, at least for this year, the new banners be installed after Independence Day and prior to installing the fall banners around Labor Day. The Farmer's Market banners could also be installed concurrently with the flag banners in order to advertise the Farmer's Market during its entire season. . It is recommended that a full complement of 44 "Discover Dublin" and 44 "Shop Dublin" barmers be obtained, as well as the 10 Farmer's Market banners, in the event that the commerce banners are used during a time of year that the Farmer's Market is not in operation. The City now has mounting hardware in place to outfit 44 street lights with double banners. The design for the banners was prepared by Sierra Display, from whom the City has obtained most of its banners. Sierra Display considers the design to be proprietary if included in the cost of the banners, which means that no other bids could be obtained. However, if Sierra Display is paid separately for the design work (approximately $990), other banner companies would be able to bid on these banners. Staff is proposing to pay for the design work separately in order to meet the requirements for competitive bidding.
