DESCRIPTION: On June 16, 1998, the City Council awarded the Dougherty Hills
Slope Repair Project, Phase II, to Grade Tech, Inc.
Phase I of this project removed unstable soil at the southern end of Crossridge Road and replaced it with a
more stable sandstone material. Phase II relieved the hillside of water pressure below grade and
controlled runoff at the surface in the mid- to northern portions of the slope behind Crossridge Road.
Tltree separate subdrain systems were installed, and the groundwater was directed into concrete vee
ditches and disposed of in the storm drain system. The combination of these two systems should provide
sufficient drainage to prevent further destabilization of the soil. Santina & Thompson, consultant on
contract to the City, has been directed to monitor the slope for any slippage by the use of a survey line
across the slope.
Staff recommends that Council accept improvements under Contract 97-11, and release the retention to
Grade Tech Inc. in the amount of $5,777.50 after 35 days if there are no subcontractor claims.
