Award of Bid - Shannon Community Center Painting Project. 98-05

RECOMMENDATION:
I) Adopt resolution awarding contract in the mount of $23,000
to R. G. Painting
2) Authorize Mayor to execute agreement
FINANCIAL STATEMENT:
Base Bid $ 21,200
Altemate #1 $ 1.800
TOTAL $ 23,000 $ 30,000
The Base Bid and Alternate #1 plus a 10% contingency is $25,300.
DESCRIPTION: Funds have been included in the Fiscal Year 1997-98 Budget for
interior painting at the Shannon Community Center. The proposed project consists of interior painting of
all wall surfaces and trim. The project was bid with one alternate which provided for upgrading to a more
heavy duty, durable wall paint. :
The City received seven bids for the project which are summarized below.

Initially, the low bidder was Nor Cai with a base bid of $14,000 and alternates totaling $350. However,
Nor Cai has since requested that their bid be withdrawn from consideration. This would result in R.G.
Painting as the lowest responsible bidder with a base bid of $21,200 and alternates totaling $1,800. Staff
would recommend including a 10% contingency which brings the total funds needed to $25,300.
Given that Nor Cai is not a responsible bidder as it appears that they will not enter into a contract with the
City, Staff recommends that the City Council adopt the resolution awarding the Shannon Community
Center Painting Project to R.G. Painting.

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF DUBLIN
AWARDING THE
SHANNON COMMUNITY CENTER PAINTING PROJECT
TO
R.G. PAINTING
WHEREAS, the City of Dublin did, on February 24, 1998, publicly open, examine, and declare
all sealed bids for doing the work described in the approved Plans and Specifications for the Shannon
Community Center Painting Project, which plane and Specifications are hereby expressly referred to for a
description of said work and for all particulars relative to the proceedings under the request for bids; and
WI-IEREAS, said bids were submitted to the City Engineer, who has reviewed the bids to
determine the lowest bid which was responsive to the requirements of the bid documents; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Dublin does
hereby award the Shannon Community Center Painting Project to the lowest responsible bidder therefor,
to wit, R.G. Painting, at a base bid of Twenty One Thousand, Two Hundred Dollars and no Cents
($21,200) and alternates totaling One Thousand, Eight Hundred Dollars and no Cents $1,800) the
particulars of which bid are on file in the office of the City Engineer.
PASSED, APPROVED, AND ADOPTED this 3rd day of March, 1998.
