Also, the bridge piers have been undercut from previous storm water erosion. The deck cracking has been tested by drilling circular concrete cores on the deck down to the reinforcing bars. It was found that the cracks are surface only, extending about 1 to I 1/2 inches deep. The reinforcing steel was in good condition with no corrosion. The Phase I Repair will be, then, to clean the deck and place a resin sealer to fill the cracks, stabilize the surface and seal the deck from moisture intrusion. The future Phase II project will back-fill the channel slopes and riprap the slope surfaces.
