DESCRIPTION The Alameda County Area Agency on Aging provides
Alameda County Gold Cards for senior citizens , ages 60 and above which
entitles them to discounts from merchants and professionals .
Alice Pitchford , the Alameda County Mayor' s Conference appointee to the Area
Agency on Aging, has contacted local establishments regarding discount
services for senior citizens and has compiled a booklet listing those
establishments willing to participate in the program.
Mrs . Pitchford has approached the Park & Recreation Commission requesting
the City' s participation in the program by providing printing costs for the
booklet . The Park & Recreation Commission was in favor of the project and
suggested that due to the close proximity of San Ramon and the fact that
seniors from Dublin obtain goods and services from San Ramon and vice versa,
a joint venture with San Ramon would better serve the needs of the seniors
in the area.
The San Ramon Chamber of Commerce has agreed to participate so that the
booklet can be expanded to incorporate San Ramon businesses willing to
participate in the program. In addition, the San Ramon Senior Center agreed
to pick up half the printing costs for reproducing the booklet .
The booklet is now ready for production. It will be approximately 4" x 5"
in size , containing 69 pages of copy on 20# white paper with cover stock.
19$0 census figures identify approximately 3100 potential Gold Card
recipients in Dublin and San Ramon. Therefore , 2500 copies are recommended
for distribution over the next two years . The total production cost for the
directory is estimated at $924.
It is the recommendation of Staff and the Park & Recreation Commission that
the City Council authorize participation in the production of the Senior
Citizen' s Gold Card Directory, and that the City pay 1/2 the cost of the
Directory , $462 . Sufficient funds are available within the Recreation
Budget .
