Authorize Staff to advertise Contract
85-6.
The Engineers estimate for the slurry
seal improvements is $35,000, and $4,000
for design and inspection. Sufficient
funds have been included in 1985-86
street maintenance budget.
DESCRIPTION: The City Council allocated $50,000 for
the slurry seal of City streets as part of the adopted
1985-86 street maintenance budget. The Engineers estimate
for this project is broken down as follows:
Slurry Seal $35,000.00
Design and Inspection 4,000.00
TOTAL $39,000.00
The patching which will be required prior to the slurry seal
installation has been included as part of the annual street
overlay contract.
Slurry seal is a preventive maintenance technique used to
prolong the life of a street. It consists of a sand/oil
mixture which seals cracks and provides a new uniform
wearing surface. The City streets are presently on a 5 to 7
year cycle depending on the level of wear.
It is Staff's recommendation that the City Council authorize
Staff to advertise Contract 85-6.
