HomeMy WebLinkAbout4.7 Street Light Conversion AGENDA STATEMENT
CITY COUNCIL MEETING DATE: June 10 , 1985
SUBJECT : Conversion of Street Lights to High
Pressure Sodium Lamps
EXHIBITS ATTACHED : Resolution
RECOMMENDATION: Adopt resolution to authorize PG&E to
proceed with the conversion program.
FINANCIAL STATEMENT: The portion of the conversion cost not
covered by PG&E would be approximately
$100 . 00 and would be paid by the street
light assessment district.
DESCRIPTION: Many governmental agencies have
converted mercury vapor street lights to high pressure
sodium. This can provide a benefit to the City. The
pressure sodium lamps can produce the same lighting level at
about half the cost for electricity and PG&E has a program
which provides partial funding for the conversion.
The City has only two lights which have not been converted.
These lights are located at the intersection of Shannon
Avenue and San Ramon Road. PG&E currently maintains these
lights and they would complete the conversion. PG&E
requires a City Council resolution authorizing the
conversion .
It is recommended that the City Council approve the
resolution directing the City Manager to authorize PG&E to
proceed with the conversion program for street lights .
