DBSCRIPTION: Correspondenoe has been received from the Livermore Amador Valley Transit Authority (LAVTA) requesting funding to support Dial-A-Ride services in the upcoming Fiscal Year. As stated in the attached letter, LAVTA is requesting a $1,500 subsidy to help offset the cost of providing servioe in the city of Dublin and to avoid Dial-A-Ride fare inoreases. Further, LAVTA indicates that the funding will help compensate for the costs associated with expanding Dial-A-Ride services to meet the requirements of the federal Americans with Disabilities Act. Typically, the Dublin city council considers budget requests of this nature during the annual Budget Hearings scheduled in June each year. However, the LAVTA indicates in the attached letter that it will begin its own budget preparation within the next month. consequently, LAVTA requests a response from the city of Dublin by mid-March of 1994. It is recommended that the city council receive the request and further consider during the Fiscal year 1994-95 budget deliberations. ~'-.... -~--~~---~~---~~------~~--~~---~---~~-~----~--~~~--~~---~---~-------~~ COPIES TO: ITEM NO. ,..1 ,CI~ FILE ~ " ','" ." Box 2340 Dublin, CA 94568 Dear Mr. Ambrose: The Livermore/Amador Valley Transit Authority is requesting the City of Dublin to support Dial-a-Ride services in the upcoming fiscal year by resuming its $1,500 annual contribution. In response to the requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act, we have expanded Dial- a-Ride services to run in the evenings and on Sundays. While this will be a great benefit to Dublin's Dial-a-Ride clients, it puts an increased financial burden on the Authority. " I..' ':' ",'. I 1,"1, ; ;. We would appreciate the City's support of Dial.a-Ride, even in the current financially constrained economic environment. The $1,500 contribution helps to offset the cost of providing service in your City and has enabled LA VT A to avoid Dial-a-Ride fare increases. Since LA VTA will begin preparation of its annual budget within the next month, I would appreciate a response from you by mid-march as to whether the City will be supporting this request. Should you have any questions or require additional information, please do not hesitate to call me at (510) 455-7558.
