CITY CLERK File # D[JJG][Q]-[J[fJ AGENDA STATEMENT CITY COUNCIL MEETING DATE: April 7, 1998 SUBJECT: Request from Boys Scouts of America for waiver of use fees for the Shannon Community Center Prepared by; Diane Lowart, Parks & Community Services Director EXHIBITS A TT ACHED: ~orrespondence from Paul C. Moffatt RECOMMENDATION: ~. Consider Request FINANCIAL STATEMENT: Estimated Lost Fee Revenue: $90 DESCRIPTION: Correspondence has been received from Paul C. Moffatt representing Boy Scouts of America, Twin Valley District, requesting that the fees for use of the Shannon Community Center be waived for their annual awards dinner. The dinner is scheduled for Wednesday, June 10, 1998. Under the current Facility Use Policy for the Shannon Community Center, the Boy Scouts of America would be classified as a Resident Community Group. The fees for use under this classification are as follows: Use during regular business hours Use outside of regular business hours Set-up Fee no fee $10 per hour $40 In addition to the fees shown above, a $100 Security Deposit (refundable) is required and groups must provide evidence of liability insurance covering bodily injury and property damage at a minimum limit of $500,000 per occurrence. If the City were to charge the Boy Scouts of America for use as requested, the revenue generated would total approximately $90 (5 hours at $10 per hour and $40 set-up fee). In the past, the City Council has granted full or partial fee waivers to the Valley Volunteer Center, the Dublin Sister City Association, the Dublin Fine Arts Foundation, the American Cancer Society and the Women's Club of Dublin. Staff recommends that the City Council consider the request for waiver of the Facility Use Fees for use of the Shannon Community Center by the Boy Scouts of America. If the fee waiver is approved, Staff recommends that the Boy Scouts of America be required to put forth the Security Deposit as well as provide a Certificate of Liability Insurance. ------------------------------------------------------------------- COPIES TO: Paul C. It is widely known, the non profit Boy Scouts of America organization, supported by many of the major community businesses, is an asset to the community by virtue of the many community services provided by BSA Scout Troops, Cub Packs, and local Scout Volunteers. As District Chair, representing the Twin Valley District, I am requesting an agenda item be placed on the April 7, 1998 City Council meeting to consider waving the rental and setup fee (approximately one hundred forty dollars) for an awards dinner at the Shannon Community Center, June 10, 1998. ,-,,- ."~-"-') . -~-~- /, C-;l /7 /' 1 7 ,'-C_,: /} "t' If (- I r I ,'1-/ " f /if! /' /Ji:t ","',";..:{? -.', LL/-/l, / __ ( ;; y (/,//[...L..-- / U "-"-'" 7' ( ""'", / I 'i 1/:( lItJ(tVJLtV 4- IV . \) j
