DESCRIPTION The City has received a letter from the Dublin Chamber
of Commerce requesting that the City Council give top priority to the
improvement of the San Ramon corridor by allocating funds with which to
prepare a master plan and improvement program for this corridor. Mr.
Leonard A. Magnani and Mr. Rodger Coupe, representatives from the Chamber' s
Economic Development Committee will be present at the meeting to discuss the
Committee ' s proposal in more depth.
The City Council has indicated on previous occasions that developing an
engineering resolution for San Ramon Road is a high priority. However, the
Chamber ' s request appears to be much more comprehensive in its scope than
just circulation, in that it addresses such issues as land use, landscaping
and streetscape, creating an image at the entrance to the commercial area,
etc.
If the City Council wishes to go further than conducting a traffic study on
San Ramon Road and considering the land use questions as part of the General
Plan process at this time, the City Council may wish to consider holding a
study session to consider the degree of attention it wishes to give to this
particular corridor.

Dear Councilmember:
The Dublin Chamber of Commerce has recently formed an "Economic Development
Committee". -This committee is composed of members of the Dublin business
community and has as its goal the economic -improvement of the business cli-
mate through active involvement in promoting actions which will serve to
strengthen the economic base of the City and provide. a better atmosphere
for business operations.
One of the methods in which this goal is achieved is through the identifi-
catton of projects which would improve the aesthetics of the City and thus
the image which the City of Dublin portrays to potential users of the com-
mercial , industrial and professional services available within the City.
One such project which has been identified by the Committee as having high
priority is the improvement of the San Ramon Road corridor between Dublin
Boulevard and Silvergate Drive.
This project was chosen by the Committee to be brought to the attention of
the Council because it was felt that this area offers the most effective .
opportunity to improve the image of Dublin by creating an aesthetically
pleasing and functionally efficient entrance for the City.
Merchandising and marketing teaches that first impression is extremely
important, whether it be in marketing a consumer product, a professional
service, or a City's retail commercial and business community.
It was felt, that by improving the City's entrance, not only in terms of
aesthetics, but also in terms of visibility and access to retail sales and
general traffic circulation, an economic improvement of the business cli-
mate could be achieved through positive marketing of Dublin as an enjoyable
and pleasant place to shop and conduct business.
With these benefic.i.al ends in mind, we hereby request that the City Council
give top priority to the improvement of the" San Ramon Road corridor by al-

locating funds with which to prepare a master plan and improvement program
for this corridor.
We would suggest that this master plan be a comprehensive plan which would
address such items as:
° Land use
° Traffic and pedestrian circulation
° Landscape and streetscape
°. V.i.sibility and access to retail sales and business
within the corridor
° Engineering considerations
° Architectural accoutrements as a means of identifying
and highlighting the entrance to the City
A healthy business community is very important to the economic and socio-
logical life of a city. Because the economic health of Dublin is a subject
which we believe should be of great concern to our City officials, we trust
that this matter will be given serious attention and thought, and positive
and timely action.
S' ere ,
