DESCRIPTION: The Dublin Fine Arts Foundation has had as its primary goal to
integrate art into the everyday life of the community of Dublin. This has been done through partnerships
with the City of Dublin, the Dublin Unified School District and local neighborhoods.
The Dublin Fine Arts Foundation is proposing a new partnership with the City to create a policy that
provides the guidance and structure to guarantee inclusion of public art projects in new development in
the City of Dublin. As explained in the attached letter from Foundation President Linda Jeffery, the
advantage of having the Foundation work with the Community Development Department and developers
is their expertise and knowledge of both contemporary art and the community of Dublin. The goal of the
program would be to create a public art program that would both individually and as a whole ensure the
quality and appropriateness of art works, provide enrichment of the citizens of Dublin, and visually
enhance its public spaces.
Representatives from the Dublin Fine Arts Foundation will be in attendance to discuss the concept in
greater detail.
It is the recommendation of Staff that the City Council consider the request from the Dublin Fine Arts
Foundation and provide appropriate direction to Staff.

Dear Mayor Houston and City Council Members;
Since its beginnings in 1988, The Dublin Fine Arts Foundation has had as its primary
goal to integrate art into the everyday life of the community of Dublin. Our programs have been
designed to reach a broad spectrum of the community from school age children to senior
citizens. We have created partnerships with Dublin Unified School District, local neighborhoods,
and the city itself to create arenas for artistic activities in the community to enrich the lives of
Dublin citizens.
The City of Dublin is about to experience a remarkable and exciting period of growth and
expansion with the development projects and long ranging planning approved by the City
Council. This new development offers an extraordinary opportunity for creating permanent public
art works. Public art can create engaging and beautiful public spaces, can create community
identity and focus, and can foster a sense of pride. Public art can provide continuity and
historical links to the past and present of Dublin and the Tri-Valley area. Artists working with
architects and landscape designers and the community can also provide innovative solutions to
such environmental and utilitanan elements as bus shelters, park benches, light standards, and
fencing. Art that is designed specifically for a location and place ("site-specific") is more
successful and meaningful than work that is added later, therefore, now is the time to begin the
planning and integration of art into new construction projects.
The Dublin Fine Arts Foundation would like to participate in a partnership with the city to
create a policy that provides the guidance and structure to guarantee inclusion of public art
projects in new development in the City of Dublin. The advantage of having the Foundation
work with the planning department and developers is our expertise and knowledge of both
contemporary art and the community of Dublin. Our goal will be to create a public art program
that will both individually and as a whole ensure the quality and appropnateness of art works,
provide enrichment for the citizens of Dublin, and visually enhance its public spaces.
On behalf of the Dublin Fine Arts Foundation, I would like to thank you for your past
