CITY OF DUBLIN AGENDA STATEMENT CITY COUNCIL MEETING DATE: March 27,1995 SUBJECT Presentation From Children's Theatre Workshop (Prepared by: Diane Lowart, Parks & Community Services Director) EXHmITS ATTACHED: None RECOMMENDATION q;;/ Receive Presentation ~- FINANCIAL STATEMENT: None DESCRIPTION : At the February 13, 1995 meeting of the Dublin City Council, Scott Evan Guggenheim, Executive Director of Children's Theatre Workshop (CTW) addressed the Council and stated that CTW had a threefold request: 1) to determine whether the community supports CTW's programs and their plight for survival; 2) to request financial assistance in the means of a grant or loan; and 3) to request that the community be empowered to support and assist CTW. In regards to support from the community, Mr. Guggenheim outlined a proposed partnership with the Dublin Unified School District which was to be considered by the Board of Trustees on February 15, 1995. The partnership was subsequently agreed upon "in concept" and the School District agreed to provide CTW with a temporary home at Wells Middle School through the end of the school year. Further, the District agreed to lease vacant space at Dublin Elementary School to CTW beginning in January of 1996. In a memorandum dated March 7, 1995 from Children's Theatre Workshop (which the City Council received under separate cover), CTW requested a $30,000 endowment from the City. CTW has since modified this request and is now asking that the City provide support in the fonn of marketing assistance for the programs and services provided by CTW. As discussed with Leslie Roe of Roe and Associates, a consultant for CTW, the marketing assistance could be in the form of promotion of CTW's programs in City publications or incorporation of some ofCTW's programs into the Parks & Community Services Department's offerings. Ms. Roe will be in attendance at the meeting to elaborate on the proposed partnership with City.
