SUBJECT: County Library Services

RECOMMENDATION: Adopt resolution and forward to the County.
FINANCIAL STATEMENT: None
DESCRIPTION: In accordance with the request of Alameda County that the City
notify the County of its intention to remain in the County Library System,
staff has prepared the attached resolution for City Council adoption. As
directed by the City Council at its meeting of May 10, 1982, two provisions
have been included in the resolution which require the City to review the pro-
vision of Library services at least once every five (5) years and provides a
mechanism for increasing the level of Library service to the City. In accordance
with the requirements of the Education Code, staff has advertised a Notice of
Intent of the City of Dublin to participate in Alameda County Library System.

RESOLUTION NO.
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF DUBLIN -
NOTIFYING THE COUNTY OF ALAMEDA •
OF ITS INTENTION TO REMAIN IN THE COUNTY LIBRARY SYSTEM
WHEREAS, on February 1 , 1982 the City of Dublin became incorporated as a
General Law City under the laws of the State of California; and
WHEREAS, prior to incorporation the County of Alameda provided Library
services to residents in the Dublin area; and
WHEREAS, the County of Alameda has requested that the City of Dublin
notify the County as to whether it intends to continue to participate in the
County Library System; and
WHEREAS, the City Council has determined that at this time the County of
Alameda is best equipped to provide library service to residents of the City
of Dublin.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Dublin City Council hereby
declares its intention that residents of Dublin continue to be served by the
Alameda County Library System, and further that such participation be condi-
tioned as follows:
1 . The City of Dublin will review the provision of library services in
the community at least once every five (5) years.
2. If the City of Dublin desires an increase in the level of library
service, a request for such an increase should be approved by
Alameda County. If Alameda County concurs that an increase in
library service is possible, such increase would be at the expense
of the City of Dublin.
