Thompson, Public Works Director EXHIBITS ATTACHED: RECOMMENDATION: FINANCIAL STATEMENT: 1) Resolution 2) Letter from Alameda County 3) Location Map Adopt resolution None associated with adoption of street name. DESCRIPTION: The City Council recently reviewed a list of suggested names for the new street that will be constructed parallel to and southerly of Dublin Boulevard and chose three potential names: St. Patrick, Dublin Commerce, and Dublin Center. Staff has referred these three names to the agencies required by Section 7.08.070(F) of the Municipal Code. The only agency responding within the 15-day time period was the Alameda County Community Development Agency, which had in turn referred the proposed names to the Office of Emergency Services. The County initially sent a letter, which approved only "St. Patrick" and denied approval for Dublin Center and Dublin Commerce. After discussing the matter with the Office of Emergency Services and the County Fire Department, it has been determined that Dublin Commerce is acceptable, with the caution that the names could be confusing for an emergency response. The Office of Emergency Services feels that Dublin Center could be confusing due to the close proximity of Dublin Plaza Shopping Center. There are already six streets in this area which have "Dublin" as a part of the name (Dublin Blvd., Dublin Court, Dublin Green Drive and Court, Dublin Meadows Street, and Dublin Canyon Road), as well as Dublin Ave. in Livermore. In the event that any addresses are assigned on the "parallel road," they could potentially be the same as addresses on Dublin Boulevard. Staff would therefore recommend that the City Council choose "St. Patrick" as the name for the street. The Municipal Code provides that non-arterial streets running east and west shall be known as "Avenues" or "Ways." Staff is suggesting "Way" since the street is relatively short, although either would be appropriate if the City Council would prefer "Avenue." Staff recommends that the City Council adopt the resolution approving the name "St. Patrick Way." If the City Council would prefer to approve one of the other names, the resolution should be modified to reflect the name that is chosen. g:\agenmisc\stjpatrck COPIES TO: ITEM NO.
