ITEM NO. ~ COPIES TO: Bidders (2) DESCRIPTION: On March 23, 1992, the City Council authorized Staff to solicit bids for Phase I of the Dublin Boulevard/Silvergate Drive Improvements. The Phase I project includes removal of the existing island and striping, and the installation of new asphalt berms, signing, and striping to revise the intersection to a "T" configuration. A public hearing item has been scheduled on this agenda which provides for a stop sign for westbound traffic on Dublin Boulevard. Two bids were received for this project. The low bidder is East Bay Excavating, with a bid of $24,940.90. At the City Council meeting of March 23rd, at which Staff was authorized to advertise for bids, the City Council asked Staff to look at the possibility of relocating the asphalt berm on the north side of Dublin Boulevard to provide a safe access for pedestrians and wheelchairs around the three street light poles. The asphalt berm can be fully relocated down Dublin Boulevard from Silvergate Drive to Hansen Drive for approximately $5,400, based on extending the contractor's unit prices for removal and installation of asphalt berm. For a partial relocation just at each of the three street light standards, the additional cost is estimated to be $1,500. If the City Council wishes to proceed with relocation of the asphalt berm, the City Council should direct Staff to issue a change order to the Contractor for the work. Staff recommends that the City Council adopt the resolution awarding the bid to East Bay Excavating, authorize the Mayor to execute the agreement, and, if desired, direct Staff to issue a change order for full or partial relocation of the asphalt berm. a:(projec¢s2)\silverEa\aEstawrd Page 2 RESOLUTION NO. 52-92 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE GITY OF DUBLIN AWARDING CONTRAGT 92-04 DUBLIN BOULEVARD/SILVERGATE DRIVE MODIFIGATION TO EAST BAY EXCAVATING, INC.
