DESCRIPTION: The American Planning Association (APA)
National Conference is being held in Minneapolis - St . Paul
from May 5-9 , 1984 . The conference offers a number of
discussion sessions which' can directly benefit staff and the
City in the areas of :
- economic development and finance
- computers and telecommunications
- management and professional skills
- transportation
- urban design
The conference also provides an excellent opportunity for
staff to establish a network with other Planning Directors
from the Bay Area and the nation, to broaden its experiences
and perspectives, and to learn from other ' s successes and
failures .
With the type and level of development that is anticipated
in the Tri-Valley Area, the information and training
available at the conference can become valuable assets in
planning the City ' s growth and development .
In a brief survey, Staff found that other Planning Directors
from the Tri-Valley Area will either attend the National
Conference or include it in their upcoming budgets and work
programs .
The conference will last 5 days . Registration cost is
$250 . 00, room is $270 . 00 , discount airfare is $340 .00, and
meals about $175 . 00 for an overall cost of approximately
$1, 100 . 00 . Funds for this conference were included in the
Planning budget .
It is requested that the City Council authorize Planning
Director, Larry Tong to attend the American Planning
Association National Conference, May 5-9 , 1984 in Minnepolis
St . Paul .
