HomeMy WebLinkAboutItem 3.1 Proclamation Sunshine Week A PROCLAMATION OF THE CIIY COUNCIL CIIY OF DUBLIN CALIFORNIA WHEREAS, Open Government is now afundamental constitutional right; and WHEREAS, Open Government ensures the survival of our democracy by active participation by the public at all levels of government; and WHEREAS, Open Government involves the public's right and responsibility to be informed and heard; and WHEREAS, Open Government requires that officials make decisions openly, and that they provide broadly publicized, convenient opportunities for participation by the public in the governmental process; and WHEREAS, governmental bodies must protect the citizen's right to know by making public records accessible. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City of Dublin will ensure that this governmental body will abide by the letter and intent of the Ralph M. Brown Act to ensure public access to meetings and the California Public Records Act ensuring the public's access to government documents; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, THAT I, Janet Lockhart, Mayor of Dublin, on behalf of the entire City Council, do hereby proclaim the week of March 12 - March 18, 2006 as "SUNSHINE WEEK" in the City of Dublin and commend the League of Women Voters for promoting Sunshine Week on a national, state and local level to raise awareness and stimulate public discussion about why Open Government is important to everyone.
