Corn;1spondence from Cisco Systems Inc. RECOMMENDATION: /1AJt '\ Accept donation of multiplexer system from Cisco Systems FINANCIAL STATEMENT: None DESCRIPTION: Joseph Drown, Security Manager of Cisco Systems Inc., has offered to donate a mllltiplexer and timc lapse recorder to the City of DlIblin, Police Serviccs for use in criminal investigations. Cisco Systems has upgraded their existing sceurity system and has no further need for tbe old multiplexer system. This contribution is consistent with Cisco Systems' corporate philosophy ofpartnering with local law enforcement. When investigating a crime, detectives often have a need to view security video tapes containing fÖotage of criminal acts occurring in local bllsinesses. Unfortunately, retailers and other businesses use a variety of different video recording systems. This makes it very difficult, and often impossible, to view surveillance tapes utilizing a standard VCR. The multiplexer and time lapse recorder will allow investigators to view video surveillance footage from any business, eliminating concerns about equipment compatibility. Currently, investigators are required to travel to the business where the video was recorded, or other police agencies with multiplexer systems, in order to view video tapes. This equipment will enhance the investigative capabilities of Dublin Police by decreasing the amount of time required to work cases involving surveillance videos. The multiplexer/time lapse recorder is fully equipped and will require no supplementary purchases in order to function. The cost to purchase eqllipmenl similar to what Cisco Systems is onering to donate would be approximately $5,000.00. H is recommended the City Council accept the equipment donation offered by Cisco Systems. ______~p__________________________________________________~____._________________________________M.__~_______ COPIES TO: Il/ce-formsfagdastmt.doc 111b1 ITEM NO.3L , , \~\ CISCO SYSTEMS _® cü¡¡,:o Sy~t(,:"m~; Tnc.
