Budget Adjustment RECOMMENDATION: /I V 1. Accept the grant from the Altamont Cruisers in the amount of /( {/\(P $2500.00 \ 2. Approve Budget Change 3. Direct staffto prepare formal acknowledgement to donor. FINANCIAL STATEMENT: Acceptance ofthis grant in the amount of $2500.00 will make funding available for conducting a citywide Child Safety Fair. DESCRIPTION: The Altamont Cruisers has donated $2500 to Dublin Police Services in order to conduct a child safety fair in conjunction with the Dublin Unified School District on Saturday, May 19, 2007. The day will consist of a variety of events including the following: · The showing of a multimedia event titled "Game On" targeted for elementary school students in the City of Dublin. The "Game On" multimedia show focuses on helping young children keep their brains and bodies safe by avoiding alcohol before the age of 21, buckling up, wearing a helmet and talking to trusted adults if they feel unsafe. · Child Safety Seat Inspections will be conducted by Staffthat is certified by the California State Automobile Association (CSAA). With the availability of funds, Dublin Police Services will purchase child seats and keep them on hand for distribution to families in need. . Dublin Police Services will conduct a bicycle rodeo during the event. Bicycle rodeos are held to train children on safe riding practices and teach the students traffic rules. The rodeo will also include a helmet inspection to ensure both proper fit and good working condition. Helmets will be provided to families in need. . The California Highway Patrol will be on-hand to demonstrate their rollover vehicle simulator, giving the students and their parents a visual display of a vehicle during a rollover crash, with and without seatbelts. Dublin Police Services will utilize Police Explorers and other volunteers for fingerprinting children and passing out DNA kits to the parents at the event. . Dublin Police Services in partnership with the Dublin Lions Club will also provide a hot dog barbecue, with chips and sodas for the attendees at a minimal charge.
