DESCRIPTION:
The City of Dublin Police Services Department is organized into two divisions: Operations and
Administration. The Crime Prevention Unit is situated within the Administration Unit. The primary
mission of the Unit is to reduce crime and the fear of crime in the community. This is primarily
accomplished through community awareness and education. Staff has prepared a presentation on the
· Crime Prevention Unit and its operation.
The Crime Prevention Unit understands the tragedy that occurs when someone is a victim of a serious
crime. But even minor crimes can disrupt lives and create anger and ftustration when our citizens become
victims. The Crime Prevention Unit recognizes the most important defense against crime is awareness
through education.

Dublin Police Services and its Crime Prevention Unit have been continually involved in comprehensive,
innovative, and outstanding prevention programming. Staffed with both civilian and sworn personnel,
these officers and crime prevention specialists work cooperatively with co-workers, schools, community
groups, businesses, volunteer organizations, and individual citizens to provide effective crime prevention
and promote excellent community relations throughout the City. The Crime Prevention Unit is an
essential element in Dublin Police Services mission to partner with the community to prevent crime and
provide greater understanding and cooperation between the citizens and their police department.
The following are the major crime prevention programs currently in place within Police Services:

· Crime Prevention for Senior Citizens .
· Business Alert

Dublin Police Services goal is to strengthen its partnerships with residents and businesses through
community policing endeavors. By identifying issues of a mutual concern and by taking'a collaborative
approach to these issues, relationships will be fortified, thus eilhancingthe overall quality of life for those
who live and work in our community. The development of these partnerships with the community helps
to build public trust in its police department.
It is recommended that the City Council receive and accept the preSentation from Police Services staff.
