1. I have served on the Youth Advisory Committee for the
past two years. As the Vice Chairperson this last year I
have had the opportunity to attend most of the Parks and
Service Meetings. I am very interested in the processes
and procedures of the Commission and would like to
contribute to the events and programs that it puts on.
2. I have knowledge of all the events put on by the YAC and
know how important every last detail is. I am well
organized and consider the little details that can prove
critical to the success of an event or program.
3. I am aware that Dublin has many parks and recreational
facilities to provide a wide variety of programs for the
citizens of Dublin. The Stager Gym is available for city
sponsored teams such as basketball and for children's
camps during the summer. Emerald Glen Park has a large
children's play area along with a skate park that took a
lot of research and planning to design. I know of the
many parks that Dublin has such as the Kolb Park,
Stagecoach Park, and Alamo Creek Park, the proposed
location for a dog park. I am also aware of the Dublin
Heritage Center, Dublin Senior Center, Swim Center and
Sports Grounds. I gained knowledge of a couple of
facilities while evaluating what location would best
serve for this year's Dub Town Jam.
4. I am aware of several programs put on by the Parks and
Services. I know of Recreation On Campus for afterschool
programs, and the Junior Leader Program for the summer.
Along with the summer day camp, there are also the
specialty classes for children including aquatic lessons.
I know about all of the events put on by the Youth
Advisory Committee, I was the Chairperson for the Dub
Town Jam, our largest event. I have attended almost
every event put on by the YAC. I also attend the special
events, I was in the St. Patrick's Day parade two years
ago as McGruff and this last year was at the YAC booth.
As a child, I went through each level of the aquatic
lessons at the Swim Center.
5. I am involved with Student Council at my school as well
as National Honors Society and California Scholarship
Federation. I attend every YAC meeting and am on a
couple Sub Committees for teen events. I work at Valley
Christian Center for the nursery.

Why are you interested in serving on the Parks and Community Services
Commission?
Serving on the Parks and Community Services Commission would be a
good overall experience, and a great way to be involved with the administration in
the city as well as a great way to meet people. I moved into the city of Dublin in
March 2000. I think this would be a good way to be of assistance in the
community, while acclimating myself with the area and relating my school with
activities in Dublin. Also, being involved in the community is good because if
you don't like something that's going on you can change it instead of complaining
about it.
What is the most important contribution you can make to the Commission?
I think that the Commission could definitely benefit from an enthusiastic
and open-minded person such as myself. I am focused, and dedicated to my
work. I like seeing a plan put in action, I am very organized, and I like to work
and to see things get done. I feel that experience in other high schools, cities and
an organizations is irreplaceable experience that most other people don't have.
Ideas from my other experiences in different cities are valuable because the best
cities are the most diverse cities, my knowledge and experience would help to
diversify the community. I have been involved in leadership for two years, 8~ and
9th grade. In 8th grade I was Assistant Editor of my school's newspaper as well as a
member of the yearbook committee and the newspaper/yearbook class' ASB
representative. In 9~h grade I was an ASB staff member. I was most heavily
involved, and second in command, in the Publicity committee, which is
responsible for making sure that all students know about school activities. I also
did a lot of work with the freshmen class treasury, because our treasurer wasn't
adequate. As a staff member in ASB I learned how to coordinate dances, and
worked with the "Homegrowing" and Underclassmen Formal comities to come
up with themes and decorations etc. I feel that my leadership qualities would also
be of service to the Commission.
What knowledge do you have of the parks and recreational facilities in Dublin?
Living in East Dublin, I know mostly of Emerald Glen Park, I've been
going there since before it officially opened! My father is the Director of Girls
Softball so I've worked a lot at the Sports grounds as an Umpire for little league
baseball and softball. I've noticed the Dublin Pool area and, unfortunately, have
not had an opportunity to visit its facilities yet.
What knowledge do you have of the programs offered through the Parks and
Community Services Department? Have you ever participated in a program or
class offered by the Parks and Community Services Department?
I've noticed that the Parks and Community Services Department is mostly
involved, like most cities, in activities for younger people from elementary
through high school age. I've seen mostly interest in sports, but I'd also like to
commend the city's effort to do things that involve teenagers. Living in three
other cities I don't think that I've ever seen this much high school student
involvement in the community. I think that things such as the Dub Town Jam
and Tri-Valley School Dances are a great way to unite the community and get
even more people involved. I've noticed also that the Dublin has involved
students in refereeing and keeping score at youth basketball, baseball and other
sports, which instills a since of leadership and assertiveness in the youth. I,
personally, have only been involved in umpiring youth baseball and softball. Now
that I know how many different things are being offered for teenagers I plan to be
much more involved in the upcoming year!
What school and/or extra curricular activities are you involved in?
Unfortunately, I've spent most of my time here in the last year acclimating
myself to the new environment, exploring my options. I worked as a slat girl for
the JV Men's basketball team, and as an umpire for youth baseball/softball. I plan
to be much more involved in the new school year. I plan definitely to be involved
in leadership. I interviewed for the position of Junior Class Secretary last week, as
well as a general leadership position. If I am accepted to the leadership class I will
apply to be the PUblicity Director for the school as well as working with the
Dance and Rally committees, the Gael Force (our spirit squad), a part of all of the
Junior class committees, and possibly the Interact Club, which I was also involved
in during 8th grade. I have also been chosen to work as the "Coordinator and
Edkor of Scripts" for Dublin High's Video Bulletin team for next year. Right
now I am working on the last edition of the Bulletin so that I can learn how
everything works for next year. I would like to work more with the City of
Dublin to broaden my horizons and open more opportunities for working in
community service throughout the area.

1)Why are you interested in serving on the Parks and Community Services Commission?
I think I have fresh ideas for the expanding city of Dublin. I.also.have.the
dedication-it takes from serving on other boards. I have lots of experience with planning
and implementing events. I would consider it a privilege to sit on a board that so well
serves' the city I live in.
2) What is the most' important contribution you can make to the Commission?'
I believe in community involvement in successful activities. As chair-person on
the Youth Advisory Committee, I am constantly involved in the planning and organizing
of events for our community's youth. I guide the subcommittees of YAC in putting on
successful events such as: Karaeoke nights, the Dub-Town Jam, and the Youth Music
Showcase. I hope to bring this knowledge and experiences I have gained to the
Commission.
3) ,What knowledge do you have of the parks and recreational facilities in Dublin?
I am aware of att the parks of Dublin since I have worked at several of them, and
am very familiar with what they have to offer.
4)What knowledge do you have of the programs offered through the!Parks and
Community Services Department? Have you ever participated in a program or class
.off~ed by .the Parks and COmmunity Services Department7
Since I have volunteered and participated in numerous programs and activities
offered t~ough ~he-Parks and Community Services Department, t am welt aware o'the
.programs ..provided. The start ofiny involvement with 'Dublin' s .programs and activities
was swim-lessons when I was in the i st grade at Murray School. The following year I
began with the Dublin United Soccer league and continue to do still coaching tbr the
DUSL. I participated in Fun-in-the -Sun in my fourth ad Fifth grade years. In my 6th
.grade year I continued with the program as a Junior Leader Volunteer through my 8th
grade year.
Then. in my freshmen year of high school ! was introduced to the Youth Advisor3,
Committee by serving on several subcommittees. The summer of my freshmen year 'I
worked as a recreation leader for Fun-in-the-Sun. Also that summer I volunteered at the
Dublin Senior Center.
My sophomore year I was selected to serve as a member on the Youth Advisory
Committee. Throughout the school year I was a Recreation Leader for Afterschool
Recreation. The summer of my sophomore year ! worked at the Dublin Pool as a swim
instructor teaching a little deaf girl how to swim.
In the past year, being a junior at Dublin .High School, I have still been a
Recreation Leader for Afterschool Recreation. I also spent many hours volunteering at
city events such as the St. Patrick' s Day festival, and at the Easter Eggstravaganza where
I was the Easter Bunny (Peter Rabbit). Also this year I had the honor of being nominated
Citizen of the Year. Again this year, I was selected to serve on The Youth Advisory
Committee. At the beginning of my term this year I was elected chairperson and will
continue to hold that position until the end of my term this summer.
5) What school and/or extra curricular activities are you involved in?
This year I have been a member of the Leadership class and held the position of
Clubs commissioner. I also am in the Young Democrats Club, the Leo Club and I am the
president of the American Sign Language Club. I also played women soccer for Dublin
High and am playing for the Junior Girls PowderPuff team in the PowderPuff game. I am
also, as I have mention before, the Chairperson of the Youth Advisory Committee.
My plans for next year are to still be a member of the Leadership class and
hopefully fill the role of Parks and Community Services Liaison in the class. I will
hopefully still help with the Youth Advisory Committee in any way possible. I will be
working at the pool until mid-September. I will not be playing any sports but, I will still
be involved with the clubs at Dublin High School.
