HomeMy WebLinkAboutItem 3.2 PrideWkPosterWinners CITY CLERK #150-80 AGENDA STATEMENT CITY COUNCIL MEETING DATE: June 5, 2001 SUBJECT: Recognition of 2001 Dublin Pride Week Poster Contest Winners and "Make a Difference in Dublin" Volunteer Organizations Report Prepared By: Jason Behrmann, Administrative Analyst ATTACHMENTS: None RECOMMENDATION: Receive the Report and formally recognize poster contest winners ,~4( and volunteer organizations FINANCIAL STATEMENT: None DESCRIPTION: Dublin Pride Week Poster Contest All students in the City of Dublin were invited to participate in this year's Dublin Pride Week Poster Contest. The students were asked to create posters that reflected this year's theme "Planting the Seeds for our Growing Community". Over 300 entries were submitted with all entries receiving certificates of appreciation. The City awards first and second prizes to individuals from each school in grades K~2, 3-5, and 6-12 as well as an overall grand prize winner. Second prize winners receive a $15 gift certificate from Target, first prize winners receive a $30 Target gift certificate and the grand prize winner receives a $100 Target gift certificate. The first and grand prize winners also have their posters displayed at the Civic Center and will be presented with certificates of merit. The following "Make A Difference in Dublin" projects were completed as part of the 2001 Dublin Pride Week events. Creek Clean-Up The Dublin Rotary Club and Dublin High School Leadership Class as well as many families and individuals participated in a large creek clean up along South San Ramon and Alamo Creeks. The Dublin Women' s Club provided refreshments for the volunteers. Heritage Center Painting The Dublin High School Leo Club spent an afternoon painting the interior of the Dublin Heritage Center. Storm Drain Painting The Dublin 4-H Club painted dozens of storm drains throughout the City with the words "No Dumping - Drains to Bay," Repair and Renovation Projects Standard Pacific has committed to repair and renovation projects at the Dublin Easter Seals Kaleidoscope Center and a senior citizen residence. In recognition of their outstanding efforts, these organizations will be presented with certificates of appreciation for their support of 2001 Dublin Pride Week events. RECOMMENDATION Staff recommends that the Council receive the report and formally recognize the Dublin Pride Week poster contest winners and "Make a Difference in Dublin" volunteer organizations.
