HomeMy WebLinkAboutItem 3.2 Proc Virginia BennettA PR OCLAMA TION OF THE CITY COUNCIL CITY OFDUBLIN CALIFORNIA IN MEMORY OF VIRGINIA SMITH BENNETT WHEREAS, Virginia Smith Bennett began her long. time friendship.with Dublin as Head Librarian at the Dublin Branch Library, and is credited for the creation of the first local history section in the library; and WHEREAS, Virginia Smith Bennet~ became known as Dublin's Historian after she completed her Masters' Degree thesis on the history of Dublin, which was later published as a book called Dublin Reflections, and went on to write the weekly "A round Dublin" newspaper column; and WHEREAS, these years were marked by exemplary dedication to the best interest of the community, as she worked for the betterment of its cultural and aesthetic development as founding member of the Dublin Historical Preservation Association, member of the Friends of the Dublin Library, and a member of the Dublin Women's Club; and Ig/TqEREAS, Virginia Smith Bennett continued her community volunteer work by assisting with the set up of the Dublin Heritage Center; helping move Old Murray School to the Heritage Center; acting as Heritage Center docent; and traveling slideshow lecturer; and Ig/TqEREAS, she justly earned the respect, admiration and high regard of all with whom she came into contact, and this community has sustained a great loss in her death. NO W, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOL VED that th, e Dublin City CoUncil, speaking on behalf o/all our citizens, hereby extends to the members of Virginia Smith Bennett s family this expression of sincere regret for ,er passing, and the hope that they will be consoled by the memories of her~ne life and achievements.
