DESCRIPTION: For Fiscal Year 2005-2006, the City Council adopted a high priority
objective to develop and implement a website to promote activities, services and programs for Dublin
teens. Staff has been working with the website designer, Youth Advisory Committee and subcommittee
on the development of the website since October.
It is envisioned the new website will improve access to programs, services, events and information
available for teens. The site will also provide links to important services geared toward teens as well as
links to elected officials to educate teens how to become actively involved in the political process. Online
surveys with instant results will be posted to gauge the opinions of Dublin's teens on a variety of topics.
The new website will increase awareness of the numerous choices teens have for their leisure time that
will provide cool, unique, healthy, safe and memorable experiences. Attachment 1 is the proposed Site
Map for the initial website. The Site Map shows the structure of the website, including the main
navigation links on the home-page and the sub-pages are under each link.
In addition to being a valuable resource for the community, the project will create beneficial opportunities
for Dublin teens to operate the website and in turn gain entrepreneurial skills, expand their creative
thinking, participate in community problem solving, improve writing skills, and gain valuable career
expenence.
The website will be operated by a team of teen volunteers and a paid Webmaster. The City is searching
for middle school and high school students with aspiring talents in the areas of art, writing, photography,
web design and other talents that will contribute to the success of the venture. The team will meet an
average of three times per month during the school year to coordinate updates to the website. Those
interested in volunteering should contact the Parks and Community Services Department.

The Youth Advisory Committee chose www.DubTownTeens.com as the domain name for the website.
The graphic designer worked with the Web site Subcommittee on conceptual designs for the layout of the
home-page and sub-pages. Attachments 2 and 3 show the page layouts that were recommended by the
Youth Advisory Committee.
As noted on the Site Map, there will be several pages where the public can request to have information
posted, make comments or submit ideas. All of these requests will be sent via e-mail to City Staff for
review and approval. Staff is in the process of developing procedures and criteria for posting information
to ensure appropriate content and the safety of website users. There will be no opportunities for
members of the public to directly post information to the website without going through the review
process. Additionally the website will not have chat-rooms, "blogs" or other instant communication
features.
Currently Staff is developing a Linking Policy that will establish procedures and criteria for posting links
to other organizations on the City's various web sites. It will also address procedures and criteria for
allowing other organizations to post links to the City's websites. This policy will be presented to the City
Council at a future meeting and the new Teen Website will be developed to meet the requirements of the
new policy
The target date for the website to "go live" is March l7th Committee Members plan to advertise the
launching of the website at the St. Patrick's Day Festival. Committee Members plan to have t-shirts,
pens, magnets, with the website address available for community members at the Festival. Committee
Members will also advertise at the local middle schools and high schools throughout the year. Also, the
website will advertised in the Parks and Community Services Activity Guide on a quarterly basis.
RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends that the Council receive the report.
