FINANCIAL STATEMENT: None DESCRIPTION: During the month of October 2008, Tri-Valley employers sought to reduce carbon dioxide emissions through participation in the "Great Race for Clean Air" competition. SuperGen, Inc., participated in this pilot program, which was sponsored by the Bay Area Air Quality Management District (BAAQMD). The program encouraged walking, biking, carpooling, vanpooling and public transit rather than driving solo to work. Employers were encouraged to offer alternative transportation programs to employees to encourage and reward commute alternative use; the use of commute alternatives has been proven to greatly reduce carbon dioxide emissions. The competition was promoted during the "Great Race for Clean Air Summit" kick-off event held in June 2008, where employers were invited to listen to keynote speakers who discussed transportation policy and the offset of carbon dioxide emissions, and held breakout sessions on alternative transportation commute- benefits programs. Throughout the October 2008 competition, surveys were conducted on employee commute activity to track use of alternative transit, and carbon dioxide reduction was calculated at the end of the campaign. Dublin employer SuperGen, Inc., won the category, "Highest Company Participation," with approximately 17% of its workforce taking part in the campaign.
