DESCRIPTION: Each year, the City of Dublin recognizes a Dublin-based non-profit
organization that has provided services which have substantially benefited residents of the community.
Councilmembers McCormick and Hildenbrand currently serve as the Citizen and Organization of the Year
Committee. Immediately after close of the nomination period, the Committee arranges for the judging to
be done by impartial individuals or organizations outside the City of Dublin.
The winning organization will be announced at the City's "Proud to be a Dublin Volunteer" event being
held on Thursday, February 23,2006 at the Dublin Senior Center. In addition, the winning organization's
name will be engraved on the perpetual plaque, which hangs just inside the Council Chambers.
The organizations nominated this year include: Dougherty Elementary Student Council, Dublin 4H Club,
Dublin Host Lions Club, East Bay SPCA, Easter Seals Kaleidoscope After School Program, Friends of the
Dublin Library, Knights of Columbus - Dublin #7987, and Rotary Club of Dublin.
Representatives from each organization were invited to attend this City Council meeting and invitations
have been extended for them to attend the Volunteer Recognition event on February 23rd.
Staff recommends that the Mayor present each nominee with a Certificate of Recognition for being
nominated as Dublin's 2005 Organization of the Year.

2005 Organization of the Year

Organizational Purpose: Dougherty's Student Council is composed of second
through fifth grade students who commit to weekly participation in student
leadership. The purpose of this group is to provide leadership in the
development of academic programs, environmental stewardship, and develop
service projects that directly benefit our community.
In the 2004-2005 school year, this group of exceptional young students
proactively engaged in developing a long-term plan to collect monies for the
tsunami victims. They met weekly, to research the geography of the area,
extent of damage and integrity of relief charities providing assistance to
Asia. They developed their own marketing strategies, creating a by-line that
would sustain their project. From their creative thinking and hard work,
Reach In To Reach Out was born. This consisted of a month long collection
of change, the solicitation of donations from local retailers for raffle items,
and the organization and sales of hot cocoa at morning recess for over 600
students! Their hard work inspired others; our staff put together an after
school bake sale, the Spirit Team and Safety Patrol also joined in to ensure
maximum leverage of our resources!
Students worked with all teachers in our school, including grade levels that
are not yet involved in student leadership and our PFC to ensure their
project's success. The amount of time they gave was extraordinary; their
efforts captured the interest of first grade classrooms, who joined us in
the research and counting of over $3,500 in change. Imagine, over 60 first-
fifth grade students counting pennies, nickels, dimes, quarters, dollars, and
checks, weekly-tallying their results by classroom-as they worked
together in between bookshelves, computers and mounds of money!
The tsunami project was one of many service-based projects our leadership
team conducted. In addition to this amazing project, they've also
successfully collected canned goods for the Alameda County Food Bank, put

together a week-long recognition of their teachers for Day of the Teacher
and presented an entertaining evening for our School Board, showing off the
best of their work. Recognizing this exceptional group of students, many of
whom continue to lead their peers both at Fallon and Dougherty, is the right
thing to do. They are leaders of today. And tomorrow.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF ORGANIZATION'S PURPOSE: Dublin 4H, part ofa worldwide youth
organization, empowers Dublin youth to meet the challenges of adolescence by providing them with
opportunities to become contributing citizens of character. Dublin 4H is a part of the University of California -
Cooperative Extension. The success of our organization is two-fold: parent/adult volunteers who use their
expertise to assist youth in 'projects' (photography, puppetry, cooking, and astronomy are just a few) and the
efforts of our members (youth) to perform community service activities that serve others in the city of Dublin
and Alameda County.

The Dublin 4H Club is a small but powerful organization that focuses on Dublin's most valuable asset - our
youth; Dublin's future! In 2005, our group has performed many community service activities that have taught
our members that great communities are the achievement of the citizens that live within it, and in a time of
need, citizens of all ages must step forward to create the change that benefits everyone!
Our community service achievements this year have included:
+:. Painting "Drains to the Bay" on curbs during Dublin Pride Week, 4H helped to warn others about the
dangers associated with disposing of toxic liquids into the sewer system.
+:+ Assisting with shopping and gift wrapping for seniors and handicapped residents during the Senior's
Day at Target
+:+ Raised funds to support three local families (two were military families whose fathers were in, or
were shortly deployed to Iraq for duty) for the holidays.

year's county fair, including several Judges Favorites and Best in Show Awards..
.:. Participated in County, Regional and State Presentation Day - Dublin 4H members competed at
local, sectional and state levels and took home awards at all three levels.
.:. Dublin 4H 2005 'projects' that benefited Dublin youths included: photography, quilting, scrapbooks,
dog care, puppetry, astronomy, cooking, fishing, horse care, and genealogy.
The Dublin 4H Club continues to grow and has impressively been of service to the youth, adults,
seniors, handicapped, less fortunate, and the Dublin community at large. This organization provides a healthy
outlet for Dublin youth to learn, explore, and contribute to their community all the while becoming responsible,
capable, and conscientious individuals. As a Dublin resident, I proudly support and encourage my son to
actively participate this group, and I believe whole heartedly in the message that this organization wishes to
convey to all others, therefore, I nominate the Dublin 4H to be the Organization of the Year.

GENERAL:
The Dublin Host Lions Club is a long time member of The International Association of
Lions Clubs. Dublin Host currently has 44 active members. Seventy five percent (75%)
of the membership at the present time are long-term residents of the City of Dublin.
MISSION:
The mission of the Dublin Host Lions Club is to create and foster a spirit of
understanding among all people for humanitarian needs by providing voluntary services
through community involvement and international cooperation.
To accomplish this mission the Club actively sponsors, supports, funds and assists the
City of Dublin and the surrounding metropolitan areas in a variety of projects and
activities.
SPECIFIC ACHIEVEMENTS FOR THE YEAR 2005:
. March 1 ih - St. Patrick's Day Parade - sponsored, organized and coordinated
the St. Patrick's Day Parade. Provided parade marshals and television
commentators for the recording media.
. April 16th - Dublin Pride Week - supplied a work crew for clean up and a cooking
team to provide a hot Barbecue noon meal for Dublin Pride Week activities.
. May 28th - Challenger league Awards - furnished a barbecue lunch for the Little
league Challenger league awards ceremony.
. June 3rd - Dublin High School Senior Breakfast - cooked and served a pancake
breakfast for the annual Senior Breakfast. Assisted other volunteer groups
preparing, decorating and serving the meal.
. June 4th - Dennis Klein Memorial Ride for the Blind - sponsored, organized and
conducted the annual motorcycle "Poker Run" fundraiser for the blind centers of
Alameda and Contra Costa Counties.
. June 25th - Relay for Life - fielded a team participating in the American Cancer
Society "Relay for Life" event at Dublin High School.
. June 26th - Relay for Life - cooked a hot breakfast for the many participants of
the American Cancer Society "Relay for Life".
. June 29th - Blind Day at the Fair - organized this annual outing for visually
handicapped clients to enjoy the exhibits and other festivities at the Alameda
County Fair. Transported clients to and from the fairgrounds, served a noon meal,
and in cooperation with the Livermore 4H club, escorted the clients throughout the
fairgrounds.
. July 4th - Fourth of July - in cooperation and coordination with the Dublin Senior
Foundation and the GFWC Dublin/San Ramon Women's Club organized, setup
and manned two fireworks booths for the annual ceremonies.
. September 1 yth & 18th - Day at the Glen - Assisted the City of Dublin and other
venders with personnel in sales and service positions.
. October 19th - served Barbecue dinners to attendees at the annual Dublin High
School"Homecoming" football game.

. December 1 st - Christmas Tree Lighting - supported the City of Dublin with a
Santa Claus for the annual Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony at City Hall.
. December 15th - Senior Citizen Breakfast with Santa - supported breakfast
activities with a Santa Claus for the event at the Dublin Senior Center.
COMMUNITY NEEDS:
. Dublin Police Bicycle Rodeo - regularly assist Dublin Police in staging this
annual event to teach young children Bicycle Safety, bicycle maintenance and
the Rules of the Road.
. Dublin Pride week - annually participate with work crews and barbecue lunches
in the ongoing effort to maintain a visibly neat and clean Dublin.
. Public Service Memorial - provided sponsorship and was a major donator for the
construction of this memorial erected in the center of the Dublin Civic Center
recognizing the deeds and sacrifices of our public safety personnel.
ONGOING COMMUNITY SERVICE INVOLVEMENT:
The Dublin Lions Club perennially sponsors or participates in the following activities and
events in and around the City of Dublin:
. American Cancer Society Relay for Life Walk - fields both a participating relay
team and a cooking team to serve a hot breakfast to all the participants at the
Sunday morning closing ceremonies.
. Blind Centers - supplying operating funds, management oversight, client
mentoring and materials to maintain the properties of both the Lions Center for the
Blind of Oakland and the Lions Center for the Visually Impaired in Pittsburg. These
centers serve clients from throughout Alameda and Contra Costa counties.
. Blind Day at the Fair - contributing organization, transportation, food and escorts
for clients of both Blind Centers at the Alameda County Fair.
. Day on the Glen - furnishing volunteers for the various booths, activities and
events during the Day.
. Dublin Pride Week - contributing cleanup crews and a barbecue noon meal for
the Saturday volunteers.
. Flag Day for Children - conducting an annual essay contest for grade school
children to better their education and of understanding the meaning of the United
States Flag.
. Fourth of July Fireworks Sales - donates logistical and sales personnel to man
fireworks booths providing Dublin citizens with the equipment and materials to
celebrate the festivities.
. St. Patrick's Day Parade - sponsors and administers the organization, operation
and coordination of the parade.
. Barbecue Cooking for small public and private organizations to promote
recognition and cooperation between the various entities. These are fundraising
activities.

Dublin Host is honored to accept its role in personal and civic leadership training and
experience for the youth of Dublin.
. Leos Club (Leadership, Experience and Opportunity) - sponsor, stimulate and guide
local high school youths in public service projects throughout Dublin.
. Promote academic achievement with Student of the Month recognition and
awards at Dublin High School.
. Promote academic achievement with Student of the Quarter recognition and
awards at Valley High School.
. Scholarships - awarding cash scholarships to students of the Dublin & Valley
High Schools for academic and civic achievement.
. Student Speaker contest - administering a contest for local high school students
to promote public speaking ability in a nation-wide contest sponsored by the Lions
International organization.
MOBILIZATION:
. Operate a collection service for used eyeglasses and used cellular telephones at
the Dublin Senior Center, the Dublin City Library, the San Ramon Senior Center,
the Roger Chan Optometry and the Fitness 2000 establishment for refurbishing by
the Lions Eye Foundation and issuance to needy third world persons.
. Provide assistance and guidance for hard of hearing clients with the Lions
Hearing Foundation
. Provide assistance and guidance for clients with sight related problems through
the Lions Eye Foundation.
. Providing funding and encouragement to others to support the deaf and blind
through the Canine Companions and Guide Dogs of the Desert programs.
. Providing funds and awareness of the City of Hope treatment and research
programs to abate cancer, diabetes and aids.
. Providing funds to the GFWC Dublin/San Ramon Women's Club for an
Autopulse Resuscitation System to the Fire Department for Cardiopulmonary
Resuscitation (CPR) of accident and medical patients.

Description of Purpose:
The East Bay SPCA is dedicated to ending the euthanasia of adoptable dogs and cats in Alameda County
by the year 2007. We do this by providing adoptions, affordable spay and neuter surgery, dog training,
volunteer opportunities and by being a local resource for dog and cat owners.
Events that directly benefited the residents of Dublin in the past year:
The East Bay SPCA-- Tri- Valley works side by side (literally, being next door!) with East County Animal
Services, the public animal control agency in Dublin. We collaborate on reducing the number of euthanized
dogs and cats in our community, by ensuring that no dog or cat is euthanized for lack of space until such
time as an appropriate adopter is found.
We continually transfer in animals from East County Animal Services, to ensure that they are never too
full. As a public facility, they can never close their doors to extra animals; if they are full, they will have to
euthanize to make space. We work with them to ensure this does not happen unless a dog or cat's behavior
or health is unmanageable. As a result, ECAS has one of the lowest euthanasia rates of adoptable animals
in the whole region.
In addition, we work closely with local animal groups, taking in their animals into our adoption program.
We received 183 dogs and cats from East County Animal Services, and 97 dogs and cats from Tri- Valley
Animal Rescue, located in Dublin at ECAS, into our adoption program.
In 2005, we provided adoption services, volunteer opportunities and dog training for over 250 Dublin City
residents.
Our SpaylNeuter Surgery Center first opened in Dublin in 2004. In 2005, we provided affordable spay and
neuter surgery to 2,782 dogs, cats and rabbits to residents in the Tri- Valley, including 129 free surgeries for
participants of the East Bay Pit Fix to help reduce the overpopulation of pit bulls in our community. One-
third of these animals (over 900) are estimated to belong to, or brought in by, Dublin residents.
In 2005, we began partnering with a new non-profit, called Tri-Valley Fix Our Ferals, to bring a solution to
pet over population to the area residents. With their education and our free/no-cost spay and neuter

Brief Description of Organization's Purpose:
For over 20 years Kaleidoscope has provided after-school care for children with
developmental disabilities to residents of Dublin and the greater Tri-Valley.
Based on established criteria, please describe the event{s) that directly
benefited the residents of Dublin during the past year:
Achievement: On a daily basis Kaleidoscope serves the residents of Dublin by
providing affordable, high quality, caring after-school care to children with
developmental disabilities. During 2005 Kaleidoscope logged over 37,000 hours
serving 50 families.
Community needs: Without Kaleidoscope Dublin could not adequately serve the
needs of these children. Furthermore, Dublin Unified School District does not
have the means to adequately meet the needs of these developmentally disabled
children without severely impacting their mainstream programs. In essence,
Kaleidoscope benefits all Dublin students by providing services that otherwise
might financially impact DUSD.
Innovation: Kaleidoscope offers a path toward living as independently as
possible. Easter Seals Kaleidoscope is a nurturing space where a child can feel
safe and supported through a customized program for a specific child's special
needs. It is a home-away-from-home for kids with special-needs, offering an
environment that prepares them for independence through age-appropriate,
activities and positive peer interaction. Through Easter Seals Kaleidoscope,
children with developmental disabilities can move higher and farther than ever
thought. Community college, jobs, and even away-from home living are all within
reach.
On-going involvement: As mentioned Kaleidoscope has been a part of the
Dublin community for over 20 years. They are committed to remaining in Dublin.

The Friends of the Dublin Library is a non-profit organization of people dedicated to
supporting and enhancing the Dublin Library with additional funding for materials and
programs as well as providing a volunteer base for library needs. The Friends is
passionate about the importance of the Dublin Library in the daily life ofthe city and
seeks to promote public interest in the Library by expanding involvement of both the
Friends members and the Library in meeting community needs.
During the past year, The Friends provided vital fmancial support for the Library's
program of service for children. This included funding all the special Summer Programs
such as: Nick Barones' Puppeteers; the popular juggler, Dana and his dog Lacey; and the
magician, Norman Ng. Total attendance at last summer's programs topped over 300 very
enthusiastic children. During the 2005 Summer Reading Game, over 1300 children
signed up to play the Game at the Pro Panel Display System (in the Kid Power AlCove)
that was purchased by the Friends. All of the children were automatically entered into a
raffle to win a grand prize provided by the Friends. At the end ofthe summer, Kid Power
volunteers were rewarded for their volunteer efforts with a pizza party paid for by the
Friends.
Throughout this past year, the Friends has offered additional support that included:
* The purchase of all supplies and refreshments for holiday craft programs
* Sponsored storyteller Clara Yen and her multicultural storytime for three different
storytelling sessions
* Sponsored a bilingual Spanish-English storytime during Fall 2005
* Provided full fmancial support for the Homework Center for the 2005-2006 school
Year and supplied the recognition awards for the high school volunteers who staff
the Center.
*Full funding of all of the Sunday afternoon Family programs such as "The Master
Maid and "Flute, Sweets and Tickle All Tunes" as well as purchases of all supplies
and refreshments for the Teen Advisory Group.
In March, 2005, The California Association of Library Trustees and Commissioners held
its Northern California Workshop at the Dublin Library. Attendees included Susan
Hildreth, the State Librarian, and county librarians from Alameda, Contra Costa, Santa
Cruz and other surrounding counties. Members of the Friends purchased all the food and
supplies, then prepared and served the Workshop Breakfast and Buffet Luncheon for
more than 100 people. Verbal and written appreciation and comments from both the
CAL T AC Board and attendees were abundant and reflected well not just for the Friends,
but also for the Library and the City of Dublin.
In June the Friends wished to thank and honor the entire Dublin Library staff for its
commitment to the Library and aid in the Friends functions. Group members purchased
all supplies, cooked and served an elegant, full course meal at the Staff Appreciation
Dinner. This event, the flISt of its kind in the library system, was very successful and
further cemented the bond between the Friends and the Staff. It will also be a repeated
event.
One of the most anticipated (and rewarding) activities fully funded by the Friends is the
Monthly Book Discussion Group. This Grolip grew out of the "California Stories
Uncovered" series that ran from April through May, 2005. Members of the group (which
included some Friends) wanted to continue reading and discussing quality literature_ The
monthly group evolved and expanded membership. All the books are purchased by the

Friends and are returned to the Library Collection after the discussions. Very lively
discussions continue to be enjoyed by all.
When advised of the growing need for replacement dvds for the Library collection, group
members responded by shopping locally and purchased the majority of the needed items.
Friends members accompanied Dublin Library staff at both the Senior Center Grand
Opening and the Day on the Glen festivities. A prizewheel, purchased by the Friends,
greatly increased visibility and attendance at the Library's booth at the Glen. It proved to
be a huge hit with both children and adults, as all who stood in the long lines had a
chance to win a free gift and/or a free book that were also provided by Friends. The Pro-
Panel Display System was also used to showcase the free books.
During 2005, The Friends of the Dublin Library turned over $15,000 to the Library for
the purchase of additional materials and furniture for the library. The group also
separately purchased a dye-cut machine, authorized purchase of a laminator, and
provided refreshments for various Library functions. These additional purchases
amounted to more than $5000 for the year.
The Friends raise these funds through the Spring and Fall booksales of donated (and
mostly used) books. The membership collects, sorts, prices and prepares items for the
sales. Members also publicize, staff, and do the set-up and teardown of each sale. Due to
the enormous amount of materials donated in 2005, the Friends also held a December
Holiday sale on a single Saturday afternoon. The spinning wheel was used to give away
small household items donated by membership and library staff The one-day sale was
extremely successful and fully funded the purchase of the dye-cut machine. Additional
funds are also raised through the perpetual book sale in the Dublin Library lobby and at
the Starbucks on Dublin Boulevard and Regional Street.
The group sold 2 types of wristbands and Dublin Library Tote Bags at all events and at
the Library Circulation Desk to raise awareness of the importance of the Library in the
Dublin community. Free bookmarks and calendars were also given away.
Membership forms for the group have been available at all functions attended by Friends
and are in the Library at various locations, including the Circulation Desk. While total
dues-paying membership of the group is currently around 200 people, most of the
members remain inactive. Thus the work performed on all Friends projects and activities
is done by less than the same 15 people. Faced with the challenge of recruiting more
active members to participate in the fundraising efforts, and to specifically fmd people to
design a Web Page and handle book sales online, the Friends held its fIrst annual meeting
in October. Entertainment was provided by an adult StoryTeller. The group continues its
efforts to seek out people who share a desire to support the Library in other ways as well.
The semi-annual newsletter has been redesigned and separate, specific "Help Wanted"
flyers will be included in all mailings. The possibility of designing "Help Wanted"
posters for the lobby is also being discussed.
The Friends of the Dublin Library is proud of its ongoing physical and fmancial support
of the Library and remains committed to expanding its involvement in the projects that
serve the community.

The Knights of Columbus is a fraternal Catholic men's organization founded about 150
years ago with a purpose of helping the widows of Catholic families and now have merged into
helping the community at large.
The four cornerstones that the members work toward are Patriotism, Unity, Fraternity and
Charity. The Dublin Council was established 25 years ago at St. Raymond's Parish with the
current membership 152 and growing.
Funds are raised from the Fish Fry's every month except during lent and then it is held
every Friday. Their main money is raised through the fireworks booths, annual St. Patrick Day
Com Beef dinner and other small events throughout the year. Last year approximately $90,000
was made from the fireworks booths. Over the years they have donated thousands of doUars to
local charities from their annual fund-raising events.
They help homeless veterans at Camp Parks, assist at local St. Vincent's De Paul with
their food bank and help scouts to earn their Eagle Scouts Badge and sponsor local little league
and soccer teams. They have given the parish school approximately $20,000.00 to purchase
microscopes for science class, for school tuition assistance programs and scholarships and have
helped local public schools with improvement projects.
This past year the Knights donated $2,000.00 each to ten local charities. They were Hope
Hospice, Shepherds Gate, Mary House, Open Heart Kitchen, Casa Vincente, Wheel Chairs of the
World, Columbian Retirement Home, St. Vincent De Paul and to St. Vincent De Paul's Dining
Room in Oakland, and Kaleidoscope. They also sponsor dinners for seniors at the church.
Throughout the past year, the men put on several Breakfasts for their CYO Program and
Youth Groups. They sponsor a free Mother's Day Breakfast and Santa Breakfast These
functions have been ongoing for about 20 years.
This past year they expended more than 5,000 volunteer hours to the Parish and
Community at large.

Brief Description of Organization's Purpose: Rotary is a worldwide organization of
business and professional leaders that provides humanitarian service, encourages high
ethical standards in all vocations, and helps build goodwill and peace in the world.
Approximately 1.2 million Rotarians belong to more than 31,000 Rotary clubs located in
167 countries. The Rotary Club of Dublin focuses its attention on Community Service,
Youth Service, Vocational Service, International Service, and Club Service.
Based on established criteria (listed on the reverse), please describe the event(s) that
directly benefited the residents of Dublin during the past year (Attach additional sheet if
necessary) The Rotary Club of Dublin engaged in several community service projects
that directly benefit Dublin residents. These include Child Safety Day, Serving Seniors,
Sponsoring High School Interact Clubs, Adopting Elementary Schools, Assisting Other
Dublin Non-Profit Organizations, Dave Burton Scholarship, Serve other Local Groups,
and International Projects recognizing the City of Dublin. Details are as follows:
1. Child Safetv Dav: On March 18 and 19, Dublin Rotary sponsored the Child
Safety Booth at the St. Patrick's Day Festival. Over 300 infants and children were
fingerprinted, more than twice the amount done in any of the previous five years.
Fingerprinting establishes a record for parents in case any harm comes to their
children. In 2006 Dublin Rotary expects to also continue the past practice of
photographing the children as well. Rotary works with the Police Department, the
CHP, Camp Parks enforcement personnel and the other agencies to organize
this important community function.
2. Servina Seniors: Each month, Dublin Rotary serves lunch to seniors at the Dublin
Senior Center. Rotarians look forward to this opportunity to provide this service.
Rotary started this practice three years ago and has continued it at the new
facility.
3. Soonsorina Interact Clubs: Interact is a Rotary-sponsored service club for young
people ages 14-18. The program gives young people an opportunity to
participate in fun, meaningful service projects while developing leadership skills
and meeting new friends. Dublin Rotary sponsors Interact Clubs of 30 to 50
students at both Dublin High School and Valley Christian High School. Both clubs
are active in the community, raising funds to provide water pumps for poor

foreign schools that previously had no access to water. Local projects include
collecting food for local needy families, providing holiday parties for under
privileged families, recycling, and conducting the Relay for Life benefiting the
American Cancer Society. Each year Dublin Rotary sends two officers from each
club to a summer camp where they can develop leadership skills.
4. Adootina Elementarv Schools: This past year Rotarians completed
renovation/beautification of the courtyard at Fredricksen Elementary School to
provide students more outside activity space. Rotary is now beginning to work
with the Murray Elementary School to provide needed improvements for that
campus.
5. Assist Other Non-Profit Oraanizations: In 2005, Dublin Rotary partnered with the
Wells Band, the Dublin Youth Soccer League and the Dublin Unity Church to
assist in their fundraising efforts. This was accomplished by "sharing" the
fireworks sales booths. This continued a long-standing tradition of providing
assistance to other Dublin community organizations. Dublin Rotary also co-
sponsored the Chamber of Commerce mixer in June. Dublin Rotary sponsors a
local Boy Scout troop in Dublin.
6. Establish Dave Burton Memorial Scholarshio: Dublin Rotary is working with the
family of long-time Rotarian Dave Burton to honor his memory with scholarships
for Dublin youth. Dave was active in the community and with youth and a
perpetual scholarship fund will be a fitting memorial for this former Dublin Citizen
of the Year.
7. Serve Other Local Grouos: In 2004 and 2005, Dublin Rotary sponsored the
awards dinner at the annual Agape Villages golf fundraiser for $2,000 each year.
Dublin Rotary made a $5,000 contribution to the Women's Club for purchase of
Defibulators for local emergency response providers. A Dublin Rotarian is
currently the chair of the DPIE Board of Directors. Also, Dublin Rotary shipped
$100,000 worth of supplies and equipment collected by the Dublin School District
to Louisiana for Katrina relief. Dublin Rotary recognizes and rewards Students of
the Month for each of the three Dublin High Schools. Every week, Dublin Rotary
donates one book in the speaker's name to the Dublin High School library.
8. International Recoanition for Dublin: While working on the Fredricksen project,
Rotary learned that each year local schools rid themselves of surplus
schoolbooks, some brand new, that could have uses elsewhere in the world.
Dublin Rotary spearheaded an effort that sent 15,000 surplus Tri-Valley
schoolbooks to Baghdad, Iraq for use by Iraqi school children. Also in 2005,
Dublin Rotary raised $50,000 to replace fishing boats and equipment for an
entire Thailand village whose fishing fleet had been wiped out by the December
2004 tsunami. Dublin, California became an honored name in the hearts of the
villagers.
The Rotary Club of Dublin is proud to submit this nomination to become the City of
Dublin Organization of the Year for 2005.
